I am upgrading my system to 5.1 or 7.1 and need recommendations for new rear speakers.

    system will consist of following:
    Yamaha RX-V1500 reciever (7 channel)
maybe with Audiolab 8000S amp - see seperate post in receiver/amp forum.
Mission 752Freedom fronts, Mission 75c center, Mission 75AS subwoofer.

should i go for 5.1 or 7.1 configuration ? bi/di-poles, regular speaker or a combination?
rear speakers must be small and will be mounted high (about 7 feet up) on side-walls and/or behind listening position. if they look nice as well it will be a plus.

looking for something relative cheap - say upto £3-400 for 2 or 4 speakers.

    your advise appreciated!

I use 78 DS for rears which are well defined. (IMO)

Seen the older 77ds on ebay pretty cheap if you are brave... Guessing they'll be good if the 78 series are anything to go by.

Also mounting is versatile. Against the ceiling on the side or back wall or simply a shelf... all work due to shape. (DS = diffused sound)

    hope this helps...

    Dan.

I had the 77ds surrounds and found they lacked a lot when in 7.1 mode so I switched to Mission M72, more direct sound from the rear not as diffuse, has strenghtened the bass response both for music and movies

I'm only running 5.1 as it seems to be enough for most films. Also i have a small living room. Very clear speakers and loud when they need to be.
