I used to have a Prologic processor feeding my active sub and a seperate amp and everything was dooby.

I recently bought a friends old Pioneer rcvr and got it up working, but I've had to turn the levels on the sub right up to eleven (fnarr fnarr) to get any type of sound from it. And even then, it seems to autoswitch on and off at will during a movie...

I'm loathed to go back to the old stuff... can anyone advise a newbie?

    Hi scoobysnax
Is there an option to set all speakers to small or large if the speakers are set to large you wouldnt get much lfe getting to the sub .Set all speakers to small sub on this may be what the problem is because as you said you are getting some lfe through but not much.
    Gonzo.
