So my new PWD6 arrived today with a JS scart plasma to VGA box
    Turned PWD6 on
with nowt into JS ........no signal it says .. fine as expected
with Sky into JS .............. signal .............. no picture SORTED (using other scart on sky box)
with xbox into JS .............. signal ............. no picture SORTED (using different xbox RGB lead)
with dvd recorder into JS ....................... fine as expected
with sky into dvd rec into JS .................... sky works (dvdr has comp to rgb converter)
with xbox into dvd rec into JS ................. xbox works (dvdr has comp to RGB converter)

So why can't sky or xbox drive the JS box direct. There is a signal from both devices (PWD6 doesn't say no signal but black screen when plugged direct)
Putting the sky/xbox cable direct into normal RGB of my CRT TV gives picture.

It was doing me head in, but all sorted now.

PS for those thinking of getting one
    watching on Cinema settings
Picture quality of sky GOOD (looped thru dvd rec)
Picture quality of xbox VERY GOOD (looped thru dvd rec)
Picture quality of Dvd VERY GOOD
    NO smearing, shadows, banding, etc
about 4 bad pixels in a vertical row when first turned on (panic)
all went away after 5 mins viewing
No buzzing or hum in silent room unless I hold my head about 4" above rear vents. (then I can hear a small hum if I listen very hard but less than my CRT Tv makes)
Some audio sync problems on a few sky channels, but having TV on same channel beside it, I think same problems there but not noticed as mouths much smaller.

Are you using "fully wired" SCART cables?

Try using the cable that's plugged into your DVD recorder with the other devices.

And make sure you are using the lower of the 2 scarts, marked TV. X box does not surprise me, you will be miles better off with a hi def kit. You have got the RGB kit for the x box? not just a scarty looking composite?

I am using the same scart that goes to the dvd rec (unplugging from dvdr and into lower SCART socket on panasonic sky bx)
Fixed the xbox by unplugging MADCOW (component/scart box) and using xbox RGB lead.

Just going off on a little tangent........where can you get the high def kits from, I've looked about for component with optical and cant get the two combined, I can only get a really cheap looking set of component from ebay.

thanks for the socket suggestion on the sky box, plugged SCART into TOP scart socket and it works. Nice to find out my Philips DVDr has a built in composite to RGB converter as well as a Tuner. (shame it's not component out tho)

I am getting smearing and shadows when the screen shows dark areas, sometimes it's truly appalling, far worse than the cheapest crappy tv in the house.

Blacks seem to have green flecks in them on DVD, and grey/black areas get very weird effects on them. They are a million miles away from clear and precise, I get an almost solarization effect on large areas of dark, slip blade 2 in and it's truly horrid in some places.

Put a bright source in like Shrek or something and it' looks truly amazing, until a darker scene arrives.

I can only presume something somewhere is not set up right but I don't know what, and going to have to speak to avsales today about it -not happy bunny.

Anybody have any ideas what would cause these issues?

For DVD am using component for sky using js vga converter, high quality scart etc and hand made cables from avsales.

SKy is actually better picture than DVD at times *sighs*

PJ , one thing avsales said try to keep the picture set on 'normal' for about 200 hrs, something about it 'bedding in ' better. Don't know if that is a major issue or not.

Very mixed feelings about my PW6 right now

I found normal settings on mine far too bright!
I am running on CINEMA, contrast -2, brightness, -4 AGC off
peak limit on, power save on, standby save on, power management on

I am using the JS to VGA for the Sky mate, the DVD runs via the component connections into my Denon amp and then out again to the plasma.
I tried all the internal settings, cinema, etc, but made no odds to the problems I have with dark areas... Watch something light, it's perfect, looks amazing, slam any source in with large areas of dark and it's non to pretty.

PAL or NTSC dvd?? NTSC dvd has a different black level, try the dvd on RGB output.
I just been watching very dark dvds and Xvid movies, no problems in blacks that I can see, no flecks, no banding. In fact picture quality is far better than I was expecting.
I did buy 2 new fully wired SCART leads for it tho (99p each)

PJ, what make is your sky box? Glad you're sorted, but I've seen about 1000 sky boxes, never noticed one with TV scart at the top before! Never mind, probably just on automatic pilot, stick it in the one marked TV in my sleep.

I'm running all my sources from scart via JS tech as well but I have to say that Blade 2 looked nothing short of stunning, sharp, smooth gradients, guessing it will be even better via component when I upgrade my DVD player.

Picture settings were on "normal" with agc on when I watched it.
