Hi all just after a bot if advice. I'm intrested in purchasing a projector for the home but as it will be first I'm very daunted by the huge array of different specs. So could anyone please inform me of what i should be looking for.

    My budget is aprox £2000.

    Thankyou

high res, high contrast, and not too bright - maybe around 1000 lumens (unless you have a lot of light in the room already, then more may be better). Black level is often sought after, but depending on the individual, isn't always of primary importance.

Demoing is the only way to know if a particular pj is any good though, as specs aren't everything. You may see colour bursting with DLP, and LCD has it's own problemas too.

You'll get an idea of what the popular projectors are from this forum, and then try to demo some. If you've not seen a projector in action, you'll pronbably be bowled over by the first one, which is why, idealy, you should see a few if possible.

Optoma Themescene H56 is around £2000, and produces a good picture. The NEC HT1000 also produces a good image, but tends to be a bit dearer now. There are plenty of Panasonics in the market right now, so they could be worth a look if DLP doesn't work for you. Sony get good press too.

Lots to choose from, so get demoing!

    Gary.

Definately find a place to demo as Gary said.I only got a demo on the old sony hs1, but even that , me being a projector newbie blew me away . Managed to get the sony hs2 in the end , had it a year now and I'm still very pleased with it .If I had the cash would definately go for something else .The hs10 seems very popular around here , but does have a few bugs and you also have the hs20 and hs3 to choose from now .the biggest problem I found was just biting the bullet and choosing one .
    Happy hunting .Murph

Sorry to sound a bit odd, but are you trying to say my own company is selling it for £2K, because we have always been at £2199

No problem, just a bit of a panic attack, i thought we were the cheapest at £2199 but when £2k started getting quoted just wanted to check.
