Could somebody explain about these boxes, ie any scaler etc ?

In a nut shell, I want to know if they help a std sky box(no SDI output) and a DVD player with DVI out.

Iam intrested in using these with a 50 plasma.

I am just waiting for my 29" sony to fail while my wife watches it , LOL (it went all D shape on the pic last night.

    Thanks

There's been a scaler with SCART for a long time - the Cinemateq. Has had good reviews.

Andy - yes they will help the plasma. you don't need a scart in on the scaler - the lumagen for example will happily take a RGB signal via scart to 4 phono cable.

The choice falls between the Lumagen, Crystalio or Cinemateq probably. the iScans seem to be off the pace currently. Lumagen and Cinemateq between a grand and £1500 depending on spec - the Crystalio £2200 roughly.

Do a search on the progressive scan forum - loads of info and even more opinion.

Iscan still the cheapest with audio delay, and off the pace? No, but their agent is not a keen plasma forum contributor, but does monitor the video processing forum.

    Gordon

Sorry - I was thinking with SDI added. That puts about £250 on the price?
BTW - you did say I might be able to get hold of one for demo sometime?? The requirement is to take two SDI inputs, DVD and Sky+, and output via DVI to a Pioneer 43 MXE1 and do it better than an HTPC running Dscaler (actually as good would do since the HTPC scores low on convenience compared to a set top box).

    Hi all
Some more details of Plasma Enhancer are becoming apparent.
First here's a photo of the Pixel Magic Cedia booth
    [IMG]
Apologies for the quality of the pic - I think that carpet did something to the camera :D
You can see the size of Plasma Enhancer there, there's also some other interesting bits - the PRO version is there and also some new network video products under the Sednar brand that we're very much looking forward to.

Also, Pixel Magic have been saying that picture quality should be very very close to that of Crystalio. It's mostly the features that differ. The only things we can see circuit-wise that might effect this is the addition of an OSD on Plasma Enhancer, and also the inclusion of a TV tuner. Otherwise the DCDi chip will be functioning the same - truelife, etc all intact.

The Pro version also comes with the Pixel Magic System setup dvd and internal menu - a lot of our customers have found this invaluable on Crystalio.

Price is going to be competitive to the other sub 1k scalers but we'll have to wait a little bit longer to find out exactly where PE and PEpro sit. It's likely that we'll know USD prices before GBP

    Here's a close-up of PE

For scale - note that the cards on the bottom left are normal credit-card sized business cards.
    That carpet!

I still can't believe that they called the remote "Spouse Friendly tm" :D

    More as I get it
    Cheers
    Alex

Thanks for the info & pix Alex. looks good. :smashin:

You mentioned that the unit had a built in tuner. Presumably this is NTSC only, or will there be a UK version?

    Hi Rob
Yes there will be a European version with a multi-Europe tuner (PAL & SECAM) in there.
It will be a while before we get a test unit but Pixel Magic are well aware of the compexities of European broadcasting.
They still reckon a December release but in order to wait until there's public feedback, plenty of stock and a couple of firmware revisions, it might be worth managing your expectations to mid-late Jan.
    Cheers
    Alex
