    Hi guys,

Probably a stupid question (often the best ones are!) - the new pioneer just announced is described as having "video conversion" ....... does this mean it converts analogue signals to digital ones ? ( component conversion to hdmi ?)

Hoping to run all sources into new receiver (component and hdmi), then just run hdmi to Projector.

    Any pointers please

    thanks in advance

Yes, it looks like the VSX1018 will upconvert all sources to HDMI and also upscale to 1080p.

sounds great for my upgrade - thanks Dave .

Does it work the other way around as well ? ( i.e will it convert HDMI signals to component?) current PJ doesn`t have HDMI (SIM HT300+), only Component .

You won't get hdmi thru component because of copy protection. (hdcp)

    Sounds like a good av-amp.

Most amps have 9 outputs so you can switch A/B. Pioneer only have 7, hopefully fixed on the new 1018.

Hopefully it'll have a graphics osd instead of text osd.

I have older version of regular DVD (Pioneer Elite DV-37). With this new receiver, if I connect to HDMI Plasma TV (samsung 1018 capable), will the video be better than the "regular" DVD? I am rather new at this and hopefully understandable question.

If you mean - can you connect your DVD player to your receiver via a normal connection and then the receiver output via HDMI?

...then no. You can't take something and improve it like that, unless your receiver upscales non-HD signal to HD signal, and converts it to HDMI and sends to your TV via HDMI and does a better job than the TV's built in upscaler.

Effectively about a 99% no, despite me not being familiar with your kit - sorry.
