Wonder if same features will be avaliable in UK model? :(

The US AV Forums site had this link, with pictures of the japanese Models. Interesting..... the long (black) side speakers and the digital tuners.

    http://www.pioneer.co.jp/pdp/index.html

However, I am insulted by Pioneers continued inclusion of an analog tuner in the PDP-434 in Australia, I have no doubt it will be years before we see these tyes of sets here.

    cheers

    Hello all

Here in the UK we'll see new HDE PlasmaTV models sometime in Oct.04 - these will be based on the models announced in the Japanese press release but don't take the indicated specs for granted; there will be variations.

Pioneer UK are keeping the specs under wraps for now - I suspect we wont find out the final spec until the trade launch which will be late Aug. 04.

Lewdannie - if a Digital Receiver is included instead of an Analogue Receiver what do customers with no Digital Reception (like me) do?

    Best regards

    Joe

    Hello Garry

    Any day now!!!

The 05HDE would still have a Media Box with an Analogue RGB input or an HDMI Digital VIDEO input - this is a BIG limitation when using them with an external Scaler.

I now have the Lumagen Vision (Analogue) into the HD15 on my R04 and a (Beta) VisionHDP into the HDMI input on the R04 and whilst the HDP works very well (with a few software gremlins to be resolved) your limited to only using 480P, 720P or 1080i out to the R04 (which is designed to work with the standard ATSC HDTV formats - and 1024x768P or 1280x768P are not ATSC standards).

The NEW Lumagen's (DVI, HDP and ProHDP) look like they will be a great option for HDE owners but personally I'd rather have an MXE1 and a much wider range of options to play with when setting the scaler up to the DVI input.

Were going to see more and more Divergence between the HDE and MXE range - don't expect to see an HDMI input with non ATSC Video settings on the HDE.

    Best regards

    Joe

    Thanks Joe,

Do you think they will use new glass in the 5th generation models?

I noticed they have now removed the filter glass which can only be a good thing.

    Hello Garry

If I understand the Press Release they are saying they are using a lighter material (5Kg) than Glass for the front filter - you still need a front filter to protect the Plasma structure from sunlight, dust and flying objects!!!

There's no reason to assume using a plastic substrate for the front filter is better than glass - I bet Leica don't use Plastic on their top lens assemblies!

The cell structure and phosphors in the MXE1 Displays is the same as the 04HDE TV's.

Remember Panasonic went BACKWARDS with the 5 Series Displays if you compared them to a 4 Series Display - cost cutting or weight saving measures do not guarantee better video performance and can your eyes actually resolve 5 Billion colours (where's Taimur? he can answer that one) I can see plenty enough colours in my HDE; what I want is better control over things like Frame Rate Conversion.

    Best regards

    Joe
