    Hello,

Here in The Netherlands the Media Markt (electronics store/chain) is now advertizing with a PIONEER PDP-42RXE plasma screen. I have never heard of that model; does anyone at the forum know it? All I can find at Google are Italian sites. It seems like a special model; even Pioneer-sites do not mention this type. 42 inch is also odd for Pioneer, since normally they have 43 inch. And it has TV and speakers built-in. I also wonder whether it uses a new-generation plasma panel?

    Regards,
    Michiel

Price at Media Markt (Netherlands) is 3000 Euro. In Italy I see them around 2950.
I still wonder why it is only known in Italy and Pioneer itself never mention it on their sites (Netherlands, Italy a.s.o.). And is it a new gen. panel?

I have been at Media Markt and have a quick look at the plasma. The design is as beautifull as always with Pioneer plasmas. The PQ was okay, but it was a DVD-demo, so what else would you expect. The box mentioned "made in Poland", so apperently it comes from Poland. Maybe a model originally only made for Poland? I also heard from someone that it has the 5th generation panel inside, which would mean that it is not using the current (new) gen. panel. The speakers cannot be removed, the stand is included and tv-tuner is inside, so no external box.

sounds like a no-go to me...
but the price seems attractive, perhaps calling pio reps in NL would be an option to consider...(?)

It must be based on NEC glass if it's really 42" not 43". They do the XM3 commercial panel which is kind of HD ready on a good day.

Next to the plasma they had a special leaflet with respect to this plasma. I hereby post them, though it is in Dutch. But I think you can understand most of it (English technical language a.s.o.).
I also heard that it might indeed be a pro-panel of Pioneer which they once started to build, but never became a success.

what does pro-panel actually mean? I wonder if it is worth taking a dive with this panel or not?

How do you know it is a 436? Do not forget that the 436 is a 43 inch model and this is a 42 inch model.

Someone told me that it is apparently a NEC-panel. Pioneer does work together with NEC, it would also explain the fact that is a 42-inch panel instead of 43-inch. The panel can be compared with a 5th gen. Pio-panel (435), so not the current/new 6th gen. (436). Maybe therefor I am not so enthusiastic with respect to the image quality.
Pioneer has "made" this series exclusively for Media Markt (Europe's biggest electronics-chain). Today I have "visited" the plasma again and the PQ was not better than a much "cheaper" Samsung or LG, so I have decided to leave it there... ;)

    Hi

I found a new post on hjemmekino.no that pretty much confirms what’s been said earlier. Although apparently this model will also be sold in Norway, even though there are no Media Markt stores here.

    http://www.hjemmekino.no/database/tvinfo.aspx?katalognr=225

Quick translation (by me): “Pioneer PDP-42RXE is a new, inexpensive HD-ready plasma. The model is a result of Pioneer’s purchase of NEC’s plasma division and consists of a NEC plasma panel with good picture qualities. The TV has 3 SCART, 1 component and one HDMI sockets. Complete specs on the bottom of the page.”
