Anybody have any ideas of which is best to go for? I understand that the VSX 54TX had THX. Does this make a big difference or is it marketting?

    Thanks

    Alex

Falp - is there any chance you could make a post with the word "Marantz" in it.

You're even recommending amps that a) yo've not heard and b) aren't out yet.

The AX3 is about to be replaced with one model for cheaper rrp with similar spec and one at ax3's original RRP but with I-link and a slightly improved spec.
Haven't heard the 2805 yet but the AX3 did seem a much better amp than the 2803 although there was £150 in the prices at rrp.

I had a chance ti listen to the 3805 (better than the 2805) with 4 different sets of speakers

I listened to the SR7400 and prefered it ni musical trems and allmost as much for movies

I must assume that the 7500 is the same or better :)

And even in a recent test the 2805 was praised but not recommended if you want to listen to much CDs...

I was also considering the 7400/7500 vs 2805...
    OK?

The Pioneer 2014 has also just been released, it got a great review in What Hi Fi this month, could be worth an audition, rrp is £800 though, but I'm sure you will find it cheaper online :)

The SR7400 is a great amp too, I can vouch for it, the SR7500 has a few improvements over the SR7400 plus THX certification, so could be worth looking at when it is finally released as well.

I woud prefer Denon 2805 for more smooth speakers and the Marantz 7400/7500 for brighter (metal tweeter) speakers...

I guess it depends what you use it for because for movies both the denons 2805 and 3805 are fantastic and pretty fair in stereo. But for movies and particularly movies with punch the pioneer is the way to go. I dont think much of marantz because i dont like the looks but they are good. But im a Denon die hard
