    6- go for skylake for ddr4. What's this trend with people not wanting to go skylake - am I missing something?

    Depends on your use, for gaming the difference Skylake makes over previous gen processors is quite small for the cost increase when you factor in the RAM as well. Skylake based build will make your build more future proof of course. I'd probably go Skylake if your budget allows it
