New Patch out For RTCW

A patch is now out for RTCW that fixes/adds amongst other things:
It tells you how many people are in the rankings overall now, so you can see what your out of
It takes into account how many games you have played, hours played, and kill death ratio, rather than pure points
You can now scroll up and down your friends list when viewing stats, so you can see everyone, and not just your top 15
Fixed the time thing, hours are hours, and minutes are minutes

Also they have reduced the number of points you can get in 1 match to 150, in order to stop people cheating in checkpoint


You can't vote in a warmup. You can have no public slots in games now (good for clan matches). It fixed the freeze bug for when matchs shut down etc.

Heard about this the other night.
Supposed to also stop cheating in capture the flag games which is good news.
One or two though have noticed a problem now trying to join games - when it says "joinable in RTCW" - you can't
Lets hope it doesn't affect everyone.

 

Don't worrie about that spike.
What it is if the room is full it still says joinable even though it's full.
so it not a problem with the patch thank god

Also CTF is checkpoint.

Well the new scoring system seems to have moved me up the league (god knows how) I actually appear in the stats on my friends list now

 

Just wait till you play 1 game then it puts you back.
when i went on i was 795 but after 1 game i'm 5900

I could also be wrong about the joining thing as i could'nt get in to any joinable games apart from grundys server.

 

Well unless I was unlucky tonight it looks like what I wrote earlier about joining games might be correct, not good news at all

In fact I couldn't even join through two invites that were sent. Each time I'd get "Session no longer available"

I'm not really bothered about the stats so I see this no improvement at all.
Wonder if it's possible to delete the patch?

 

Spike when me & dan sent you the invite the room was full.
The funny thing is when i left grundys game 3 times i got back in no problem without an invite.
Eddy also sent me invites to other games as did dan & again no problems.
The only joinable games i could'nt get into was yours & zaps
So i'm still not sure if the patch is the problem, also no you can't get rid of the patch.

when I tried to join early yesterday evening, I couldn't join Killa or dan when it said they were joinable, but could join Whitts who was on the same game. and that's when Killa was hosting before Grundy set up a server.
I have seen no improvement with this patch, although the communicator issue may have been solved.

Also i set my game to private & only sent invites to whitts & dan.
But you grundy & someone else were able to join without an invite (not that i did'nt want you in i might add ) you could'nt do that before the patch.
All in all the patch is one big fudge up IMHO, i was 2000 before the patch now i'm 5900

 

Right guys,
I'm of the opinion that this patch has created more problems than it solved.
I can't seem to join most of the games I'm invited to even when the server is not full, and the server is private.

Now a question for the knowledgeable...
How does this new point system work?
I have a friend on my list that has 300 kills and just under 1000 points. Why does he rank higher than me when I have substantionally more kills and points?
And to cheese Killa off....this guy is also higher than killa that has many more kills and points than a lot of my friends list.
Well he was at 1-30 this morning.

Any ideas

 

Right for a start off he aint higher that me right
He can't have downloaded the patch & played a game yet.
When i first downloaded it i was 795 higher that dan ect, but when i played the game once it set me back to 6000
So don't worry when he downloads it he'll drop way back

 

I think your right about him not downloading it yet.
I have emailed activision just to ask about the connection issue. I know Spikey has been having problem aswell.

p.s how did Phil Taylor do?

 

He beat Dennis Smith 16-7 to book a place in the s/final tonight.
Only thing is LFC play Ajax at the same time as phil plays
I'll have to set 2 tv's up so i dont miss one

I have to say I've seen more in the way of buggy matches since the patch. More freezing, a little more in the way of lag on reliable servers.

After being disconnected from two separate servers yesterday my box crashed rather than taking me back to the loading screen.

The fact that RTCW is so damn good you keep going back despite these things is testament to just how good it is. By the way, good playing with some of you last week. Can you believe my girly came through the door and collapsed on the floor? Mid game? I had to drive her to hospital! How selfish can you be???

I have received a reply to the email I sent to Activison and here it is
"Thank you for contacting customer support at Activision.

The 29 Jul 03 auto-update makes the following changes/improvements:
Increased server stability
Improved and corrected match statistics
Improved joining of matches through the friends list, and the usage of private slots
Increased voice channel stability across map changes

We are aware of your problem and we are currently researching this.
Please feel free to contact us via email in the future with any problem you may have."

So they just listed the alleged fixes that Killa pointed out, but they say they are aware of the problem, and investigating it or is this just a pleasantry of saying that they have received my email?

 

The thing is why not just go back to how it was before the patch?
Then when the patch has been put right put it back on live.
Because at this rate before the patch is fixed loads will have said stuff this & moved on to other things.
Which would be a shame as wolfy is the best live game at the moment IMHO.

 

Last night I wasted at least 15 mins of valuable gaming time trying to join anyone on my friends and on optimatch.
Not good and certainly not an improvement. At least before the patch the games that were "joinable" were just that.

Good man Colesy for emailing Activision. Lets hope that they will correct the problem..............RTCW 2 anyone?

 

gotta another reply from activision north america which says
"Please bare with us while we investigate this issue"

And this
"However, it has come to our attention that the update has not had the desired effect"

So maybe they are having lots of complaints, and at least they are listening to us

Yeah people from the xbox forum have been emailing them all day.
So maybe just maybe they'll sort this very soon

 

After a few days of this so called improvement I've also noticed that the mic bug seems to have got worse.
I'm really hoping that they do something now.

I had that a couple of times yesterday and for ages was pushing the little mic jack in to the unit! What a tit.

Hope they sort out this mess soon.

I really am getting p*ssed off with this game now

Go back to how it was before the patch thats what i say.

 

Besides the whole "patching sucks" debate (which I'm sure MS said once upon a time wouldn't form part of their online strategy), can you actually go back to a point before the patch?

Or would they have to patch the patch?

Yes I do mean that beng.
There were several times last night that some of my team didn't realise that you can correct it instantly by pulling out the black adapter at the top of the controller.
A few games played in silence last night

 

You can't get rid of the damn patch, they'll have to patch the patch

 

As I mentioned earlier in this thread, it's a real testament to just how good this game is that people are willing to keep on playing despite the errors being caused by the new patch.

I just hope they fix it soon because, and correct me if I've got this wrong, internet gamers have quite short frustration spans. Patience only becomes a virtue if you're sniping on the beach waiting for a perfect headshot! It's like anything. Good service isn't usually noticed until something goes wrong.

Fix it Activision / grey matter / whoever is responsible!
