As the title suggests, I'm curious to know if the new swish sets with the onboard DVB tuners also have a suitable slot for a CAM (as IDTVs are supposed to) so that you could view Top Up TV by using an appropriate CAM?

They have a common interface slot, whether that means they are compatible to TUTV who knows. I don't think it's as straightforward as just having the necessary slot for the cam. I would guess it should work to be honest but couldn't say for sure.

    In theory it should be.

They should be in the same boat as any other IDTV, of course as you say, whether or not it will work is another story. :)

T***s Up TV are still only compatible with old On digital boxes, nokia mediamaster and basic pace freeview. I wonder if they lack the funds to do more development. Having the slot is nothing to do with compatibility, apart from the obvious, physical part. There is a 'list' on their web site, that's what it says.

In addition to these, several people have tried the CAMs with other hardware (such as IDTVs and the Netgem i-player) and it seems to work.

I personally have the Netgem and whilst I wouldn't call it plug and play just yet, it's getting there.

Just wondering what my best option would be PQ wise, the other half wants a plasma in the bedroom but is adamant that there should be no cables/boxes on show.

Personally I'd plump for a HD Plasma monitor and feed it via component from the Netgem, but then we'd need speakers etc for basic stereo listening, unless we go for something like a Viera.

Only prob is I'm not sure that our plasterboard walls would take 41kg of screen + mount.

    Thanks, that's good to know.

I still think I might entrust it to a professional though, my destroy it yourself skills aren't exactly finely honed. ;)

Just as well, cos I'm not. :)

At least not where AV or DIY is concerned.
