The new Panasonic S97EBS player is out and looks a nicely-capable HDMI-equipped player - does anyone have one and if so, can they confirm that it upscales to 720p/1080i?

Panasonic's own website don't mention that it can upscale but you can't always believe manufacturer's websites! It's rumoured to have a faroudja chipset??

Anyone got opinions on this player?? Over on the USA forums, it's taken a bit of criticism for macro-blocking problems but rumour has it that Panasonic are (apparently) working on a firmware fix??

Yes it can upscale to 780p & 1080i (only on HDMI). Also it has the 2310 Faroudja chip you'll find in the Denon 2910/3910. I'm waiting for Panasonic DVI board availability to really see what it can do (only got one yesterday)

Indeed so - if I can get one, availability is pretty scarce at the moment it seems
