My old Kenwood AV amp is on it's way out and needs replacing. One thing I noticed about it was that it was nowhere near as good at playing music as normal Pioneer amp. So the question is new or old.

Today Richer sounds have the Pioneer VSXC100 for only £69.95 if I can track one down.

Also they have Pioneer VSXC301 for £159.95 and Marantz SR4400 at £169.95.

However, on AV Forums there are potentially some second hand receivers for sale - the ones I am interested in are a Denon Avr3300 for £115 and Denon 2802 for £150.

I know the 3300 is about 4 years old but was a top model then and 2802 a couple of years old and a mid range model.

Have things improved so much over the last 4 years or will the 3300 still be vastly superior to the new models above in terms of sound quality? I'm not bothered about 6.1 or 7.1. And not sure if a top model without Prologic 2 will still outperform a cheaper Prologic 2 model.

    Any advice much appreciated! Thanks,
