    Microsoft have released several updates for Windows, one of them critical. If you haven't got automatic updates turned on, it's a good time to do a manual update. They've also updated the updater (if that makes sense) which now carries out additional checks on your product number to eliminate more pirate copies of XP.

    FYI -security updates do not require a genuine copy of windows
    the validation tool will run only when installing value add updates/software

    a good move as it stops pirate software users spreading viruses
