    Hi everyone, please can someone give me some advice regarding connecting up my prospective Plasma.

    I am moving house a week on friday and will be purchasing a Panasonic 42PW7. I will be wall mounting it and want to connect the following;

    Sony PS2
    Sky Digital
    DVD
    Video (possibly!?)

    My current setup is SKy --> video --> 32" Panasonic Widescreen (AV1)

    DVD --> TV (AV2)

    PS2 --> TV (AV3)

    I understand that I will need a tuner unit (allow just one connection to the Plasma) which one for this type of Plasma ? I assume the tuner connects to the Plasma's component board ?

    Or am I incorrect in thinking that a scart board connecting into a scart selector could do the job (but picture quality may be worse ?)

    If anyone has any good tips for getting a better connection, particularly for the PS2,

    Many thanks

    PS2 either component or S-video
    DVD component (upgrade if needed)
    Sky use one of these http://www.av-sales.co.uk/html/rgb_to_plasma_scrren_vga.html
    to built in VGA socket
    Suggest you go for the dual slot terminal board and decide what the priority is for DVD and PS2 and use higher priority one to component and lower to S-video SKy to VGA (upgrade to sky+ and ditch VCR

    Some interesting info..thanks.

    I am planning to get the PW7 which has a scart board included, so was looking to accompany it with the Quintro scart switch, running all the devices off this.

    As this is a wall mounted plasma I was thinking of restricting the amount of cablingm, so with the Quintro I would only need to run 1 scart and power to the plasma, as well as an amp connection (have a yamaha)

    who were you going to buy from? AV-sales let you choose the input board... Scart is the worst input board available for the PW6/7 PQ is not as good as it should be...

    Looking to purchase here,

    http://www.toptelevisions.co.uk/shop/?target=dept_818.html

    or at http://www.crystaltec.co.uk/showitem.php?pid=732

    Its all getting a little confusing, but basically I want the PW7 with the relevant board that will attach to a device that can have the PS2/DVD/Sky fed into it.

    I assume one way was to connect it via a tuner (+relevant board on the Plasma) but obviously more costs are involved.

    The bottom line is I am having a Wall Mounted Panny 42 PW7, so need to keep cabling down to minimum and want to connect up the devices listed above !

    Cheers

    Good question HD, not able to confirm what model my amp is (Yamaha) but if you know of a good website where I can spot it ! I will tell you now otherwise will have to wait till this evening.

    I'm no expert on the RGB conversion question I'm afraid.

    AMp has only composite S-video switching (no comopnent) so (possible cheat that may may not work for switching component............) so i suggest you run it all intio amp (lower quality) and the to screen or forget amp video switching for the time beimg and we start you off again mate

    Sounds about right, thanks for the recommendation on the video matrix switch, looking at;

    PW7 (Crystaltec for price plus has component board inc)
    Wall mounting (Av-sales)
    Matrix switch (Av-sales)
    Cabling - relevant component cables for the devices !

    Also - PW7, PW7B - the difference being ?

    B means UK and i suggest you get that from AV-sales drop alistair a line.... also pick up the extra warranty from them extra 2 years cover for £199 well worth it...... + I know there stock is genuine UK and i was sure you got a component board as well in the price (dont skimp on this) if it buzzes or turns up dead you need a company who can sort it....... not flap for days and then **** you off.....

    Also as amp does switch S-video i reconmed you use a 5 core video cable and have it terminates 2 cores to S-video (4 pin mini DIN plug) + 3 xBNC on one end and S-video + 3 X RCA on the other end that would allow you to use the dual slot board and then connect any extra devices via S-video and the amp AV-sales should be able to supply Van damme 5 core or QED CX5CV ( a bugger to bend) terminated like this so just one cable + power to screen (CX5CV is lovely green colour) but allows you to use almost all devices (standard VCR is the only thing that wont output S-video or component that you are likely to want to use )

    Thanks again HD, so are you saying with the correct cabling, I could connect my Sky/DVD/PS2 into the amp which then connects into the Plasma with the correct board (saving the cost of a video matrix switch ?)

    Trying to fathom out the cabling plan you have mentioned.. :laugh:

    YES DVD direct by component Sky via S-video (RGB>Svideo converter or upgrade to Sky+) PS2 via Svideo (just buy the lead) and run S-video to screen, Sky and PS2 via amp or could connect them all to a quintro and up to RGB>VGA converter and off to VGA on plasma...... There are loads of options mate just need to work out what works for you...

    Just how bad is the Scart board on the PW7? I've just ordered one with a Quintro box. all the equipment I have has scart connectors (RGB or S-Video) though so not really a choice is there?

    Does the JS box accept scart inputs but have either component or VGA output then?

    Hi Tommo,

    I am a novice also reading this thread you know more than me why did you go for the panny pw7 and not the Panasonic Viera TH42PE30CAB Plasma?
    was it just the price diff?

    what do u get more from one to the other ?

    do you get picture in picture on the viera?

    I know you get a 100 channel freeview tuner built in the viera.

    Have you bought your pw7 yet ? was it around 1700?

    The viera is around 2400 from John Lewis with 5 year warranty.

    Help im lost what's this extra board people are talking about ? is it built in to the plasma or a seperate box of tricks?

    I want a plasma that I can connect :-
    sky
    dvd
    pc
    ps2

    sorry for so much trouble

    Yorkie
