Anyone had a go at one of these already?
Believe they're in the American shops right now.
Seems like a smashing amp to me, will probably get one from HK where they're expected in next week, and in my favorite color- gold...
Already got a DV-9500 in that color, looks fine, silly however this expensive player is NOT equipped with firewire, duh!

I'm also interested to find out where to buy hifi-kit from HK/Japan, since I would like some gold-coloured marantz equipment

    :lease:

Sadly they only sell them in silver or black here in Sweden... black is ok I guess, but I rather have them in gold :D

Yes they are (if I guess correct what you mean), but in the fall they'll present the DV-9600 which HAS firewire (= i-link).
    Double Duh!
    (Just bought the 9500...).
Just read a rave review in The Gramophone on the DV-9500, and it's true- I never heard a multiplayer which sounds SO good!
Also, colors are excellent too, whites really SHINE, it's even better than the 3910 ! (using DVI).

Marantz are effectively missing the firewire stage of development out the DV9500 (or 9600) can still be "single wire" connected to the SR9600 via HDMI. I-link is a nice connection (I rate it highly) but I suspect that more and more AVR/DVD combo's connect purely by HDMI. I appreciate that it is unclocked but this like anything else will be sorted in time.

Yes TONS OF FUN, a good thought, I could probably hook up the hdmi output of the receiver to my DVDO HD+ scaler's dvi input for video, right?
If I understand the SR9600's manual correctly, it does accept hdmi image plus sound.
My current SR-8500's dvi input does not handle sacd/dvi sound.
    Am I thinking correctly here?
That said, I wonder what the sound benefits would be apart from cable uncluttering?

My Chinese supplier informed me Marantz is slightly delayed, he expects the units in any day now, in GOLD !
Told me last month he expects his selling price to be around $ 2500.
It's easy to import from HK, you pay these guys by bank or PayPal and two days later the goods arrive!
You'll have to pay your local VAT though, unless you own some company. but DHL/Fedex/TNT couriers are MUCH cheaper in China than they are in Europe.
In fact, I found their service excellent and very personal, much better than the arrogant morons that seem to crowd the Dutch hifi palaces...

Barend- the DVI inputs of the 8500 are only video receivers whilst the HDMI inputs on the 9600 are video and audio and will allow single wire connection.

I know it is easy to buy/import things from HK, I've done it many times with console game, movies etc, but what I don't know is of any good and relieable sites which sell hifi equipment...

So if anyone has some recommendations that would be very nice :)

I am planning on getting the DV 9600 which has firewire to match it with the SR9600.

    @tons of fun:
Audio-over-hdmi: is not yet a match for firewire, because it does not support SACD (yet).
Also "they" say it might be inferior, because it isn't clocked...

i suppose firewire will sound better.
But with Dv9500 you can chose to output sacd as either DSD or PCM, this way you can get SACD over HDMI.

No, I don't think so, I had my 9500 set to DSD and there was no sound.
Reason is probably it's not yet supported by Sony/Philips for hdmi.
Will give it a try for pcm and dvd-a though.

Barend, Yes you are right. No sound out of HDMI for SACD. Tried last night.
