The new Loewe LCDs should be out now - seen them advertised by Peter Martin with free DVD player thrown in. Has anyone seen these LCDs in action yet? and how do they compare to its main rivals (esp for moives): Philips/ Sharp in the LCD division and the Pioneer/ Panasoinc in the Plasma division?

    Hi,

I've tried out the new 37" Xelos LCD. It is the best LCD screen I've ever seen, but the black levels aren't good enough. It doesn't suffer from all the typical LCD-problems like bad movements, reactiontime and washed out colors, but the black level is the main problems. It is grey!

You can't compare LCD to plasma. Plasma is better in every respect: black levels, colours, detail and depth.

Remember LCD screens has only been out a few years. The first plasma came 10 years ago. LCD needs a few more years on it's back until it can show good enough PQ.

Did yopu notice if the Xelos, Sharp Titanium and Philips 9986 models were there too? All four are on my short list and it would be good if they could all be viewed in the same place at once.

The problem is that in daytime they look just fine, sometimes very good, but as soon as you turn off the light, you reaaly see how bad the contrast ratio is. They just look grey, with a blueish tint.

Plasma picture - eg pioneer may be better picture wise than most lcds at the moment, but lcd has the greater life span, has less issues of screen burn which for a TV/Screen costing several £1000 for me seems only a reasonable expectation. I am waiting for the day when we get the decent lcd with decent depth colour and free of those high speed ghosting - I hoped the loewe may have reached that point.

Am I the only one confused by the LCD/Plasma debate. I am about to buy a 32in LCD and I am worried about buying a 'turkey'. Is the Loewe Xelos any good ? Should I stear clear of it because of the problem with the colour black ? Should I go for a Sony or a Sharp instead ?

What I've noticed over the past few months of viewing these boards is that everybody has their own opinion on LCD v Plasma.

Put it this way, I've seen the new 32" Loewe LCD, the one with the built in HD and a well set up Pioneer PDP-434HDE and dozens of others. They were all had fantastic pictures and sound to me, maybe I'm not a PQ specialist, maybe my eyes are a bit crapper than most, but bottom line they were all extremely watchable and I don't know anyone who'd say no to a free one.

Do you not think that everyone is chasing a PQ dream? No manufacturer will ever make the perfect screen or else you'll never buy another one again (unless it’s damaged, etc). I'm just going to order the one I've been toying with for the last three months and be done with it. For gods sake we could be talking about which is best for the rest of our lives and miss out on all the great movies, TV, music etc etc that these screens are for.

None of us are getting any younger, anyway some will buy ya old TV off you if you get sick of it and there's always cutting back on eating and  to pay for the new one.

I used www.moneysavingexpert.com to help me save extra dosh to get the stuff I want, so ordering today, well hopefully, as I don't think Philips want to sell any LCD's due to their :censored: dealers that I've dealt with so far, has anyone else been told "That screen is to large to deliver and you can't collect it either!".
