    Hello all

LG have just launched two drives that read both HD formats, the GGW-H20LI and the GGC-H20LI. The GGW-H20LI will cost about $500 and writes at 6x dual-layer BD-R/RE discs (as well as DVD±RW). Whereas the $400 GGC-H20LI can only write DVD±RW and CD-R/RW.

As for the low cost BD-R discs...
Pioneer and Mitsubishi have developed a low cost disc that uses an organic dye recording layer. The downside is that these discs do not work with current current drives.

It suggests that a firmware update might allow playback on existing players, which would be good. The best bit about these discs is that they can be made on existing red laser production facilities with "minimal investment"
