Right im after a new laptop , notebook or some advice.

I have a samsung tab s which tbh i dont most things on and love, however when it comes to things like looking at photos , editing them, office documents, i usually revert to my older laptop which has had its day i think.

Ive not tried using any office aps on the tablet as i cant imagine theywould be as usable with a tablet compared to a laptop and storing photos isnt a option due to memory card size and i dont think theres a way to use a external hard drive on my tablet.

Im looking to spend £200 max as its hardly gonna be used, odd occassions for photos, documents and some web browsing

I'm not sure what the Tab S support specifically, but many tablets support USB On-The-Go (OTG) adapters which allows you to use storage devices with a tablet.

In terms of second hand laptops it really depends on what's available. You will have to look at something a couple of years old for a decent screen as they're rare on budget laptops. Something like this might be a decent option but a quick search suggests the going price is closer to £300:

Ok 5hanks for that, ill look into using a hard drive with my tablet, tbh i may still need a alternative device as the other half wants something with a keyboard.

Wouod a notebook be more chievable for price then a laptop, the hp streams seem to be quite cheap but i have no idea what they are like, tyere seems to be soo many processors in these things now

The two terms are interchangeable, they're not different things.

the hp streams seem to be quite cheap but i have no idea what they are like,

Those are machines were price is more important than value, they're substantially slower than mainstream laptops and many of them don't run smoothly in my experience.

If you want to consider that sort of machine I'd strongly advise going to a shop where you can test them before buying to make sure you can live with their limited abilities.

tyere seems to be soo many processors in these things now

Intel has two processors ranges. A higher power one used in laptops/desktops/servers which includes Broadwell, Skylake and Kaby Lake, and a lower power one used in phones/tablets/laptops which includes Goldmont, Apollo Lake and Cherry Trail.

The higher power models in laptops have models ending in U, HQ or using the Core M branding while the lower power ones have models starting with an N or using the Atom branding.

Like for like the higher power models are about twice as fast, although in practice the difference tends to be greater as different models are popular.

AMD similarly have two ranges but their current higher power design isn't very good and doesn't show up in many laptops, especially now as it's replacement is only a few months away. Basically any A10/A12/FX branded CPU is a higher power design, anything else is likely lower power[/QUOTE]

Cheers for that mate, as said before im really happy with how my samsung ta s performs but not sure what that has in it, so i assume a cheaper notebook wont be as good as that
