    Hello,

    I can buy an insurance replacement laptop, but only from PC world or Currys. I've got around £400 to spend, but will go a little more if it means a much better laptop. I won't use it for anything super CPU demanding but would like something like a Core Duo 2, at least 200GB hard drive, and things like a blue-ray or HDMI output would be a bonus. Obviously a good graphics card would be a bonus, but I suppose it's not a must.

    At a stretch I'm thinking either

    Samsung R510 [IMG] Currys £550
    # ntel Core 2 Duo Processor T6400
    # (2GHz, 800MHz, 2MB Cache)
    # Genuine Windows Vista (R) Home Premium
    # 4GB Memory
    # 320 GB Hard Drive
    # Wireless Enabled
    # DVD Super Multi Dual Layer
    # 3-in-1 card reader, Webcam
    # 15.6" WXGA WIdescreen Screen
    # 2.5 hours Battery life (up to)

    or
    Sony VGN-NS20SS
    [IMG] Currys £550
    * Intel Core 2 Duo Processor T6400
    * (2 GHz, 800 MHz, 2 MB Cache)
    * Genuine Window Vista (R) Home Premium
    * 3GB Memory Size
    * 320 GB Hard Drive
    * 15.4" widescreen display
    * DVD RW
    * Wireless Enabled
    * 4 No. of USB Connections
    * Silver colour

    Or something cheaper if possible. I've been tempted by some HP's, but they seem to have a lot of problems.

    Please help :(

    Any advice greatfully received

    Thanks for that. Much appreciated.

    Have you heard of HP having problems at the moment with their laptops, or am I imagining things? Stories of lots of overheating.

    I would not read too much into stories. One of my laptops is the Dell XPS M150 with the Nvidea 8600gt card; this was supposed to be a night mare for overheating and problems. I have not had any problems also if there are reported problems normal a BIOS flash is released to cure most of them.

    Thanks for the reply.

    I think my absolute max is probably £550-£575. I've been thinking about it and I'm not too bothered about blu-ray, mainly because I haven't got any blu-ray dvds

    I don't think I can use PC World business unfortunately.

    Thanks for the two suggestions

    Ive just bought this:[IMG]

    Currys - Shop for Entertainment Laptops - HP G70120EM Features a Blu-ray drive for a superb HD viewing experience

    Will be using it for a bit of web browsing and possibly the odd movie (although I dont have any blu-rays) and just for general work stuff.

    I chose this over the G60 as it had a bigger screen and the graphics were (slightly) better (so i was told)

    However, the battery life is very poor (i find) 2 hours max from just surfing the web before its about to die. Is this normal?

    The only downside for you is that it only has a 160Gb hard disk as opposed to the 200 you wanted.

    That HP was the exact laptop i was thinking of getting, seems a great price for everything you get would you recommend it ?? Im not too fussed about the Hard Disk size as buying addidtional USB storage is so cheap now...
    I was either going for that or the Dell Outlet route....

    YES it does, although the spec sheet on the sites are poor. I dont have LCD or plasma :( and therefore haven't used the output so cant comment on how good/bad it is.

    It took me ages to decide which laptop I wanted and then I was put off by the spec sheets.
    But then had a mini brainwave and found all the spec on the hp site. I tried to put a link in here for you but it seems like the site my be down or having problems. Next best I could find was here:
    HP G70-120EA review- Laptop Computer Reviews.

    Which is a review of the laptop, and gives the spec further down the page.

    I, like the OP will be using it just for the internet and the odd documnet and transferring files from phone to pc.

    I wasnt too fussed about the Blu-Ray....its just a bonus if its there (I dont own any blu-rays anyway).
    Otherwise im very happy with it. However, as I stated above, I did find the battery life poor, but as its my first laptop im not sure how long a battery should really last for.

    Hope this helps. :smashin:
