Anyone had any experience with these?? I saw a piccie of them somewhere (Whathifi I think) and they looked v nice. Any ideas on prices / sound etc?? to be matched with Q1 and Q9c btw. Thanks. Dave
They do look nice.... -- Why cant B&W do something like that for the 600S3 range????????? -------- GJC
Someone must have some experience of them. I certainly would like some feedback if anyone hears them.
Anybody know how much these speakers weigh? Also what the dimensions are, they look VERY nice in the what hi-fi picture! They seem ideal for what I want and the key hole mounting means they could be more discretely mounted flush on the back wall - just wondering if my wall could take their weight!?
Nick, I'll be casting my beady eye's (and ears) over these at some point this week. They sure look nice. Regards Eric
Eric do you know when the speaker will go on general sale? As usual, look forward to hearing your thoughts when you get to hear these interesting speakers! Cheers Chris
I went into my local hifi place on Saturday and they said the speakers are due for imminent release at around £400 but he'll ring me on Tuesday to confirm the details. I'd love to know how much they weigh / what they sound like as this will probably decide whether I go for these or another pair of Q1s (significantly less money!!!!) Dave
Codethief, they weigh 7.7kg each, I figure if they are too heavy for my wall I can put a nail a discrete/small wood support underneath? If you want more info there is a downloadable pdf from the kef site here: (you'll need adobe acrobat to view) http://www.kef.com/reviews/presscenter/pdfs/K8279_~1.pdf If they are any good I will definately get a pair!
Aha, Nice one mate (how'd you find that btw ) Hmm I have plasterboard walls so gotta find some damn good fixings for these! Dave
Found it in the press release section of the site here: http://www.kef.com/reviews/press.html I have plasterboard too... I think some decent wall plug thingies and small support underneath should take the weight nicely (I hope!) Chris
Guys, I've not listened to them yet. Even so, the best speaker to go with the Q1 is a Q1. Remember, even ignoring the fact that these are of differing design, they are a different size hence internal volume to your Q1's. They WILL NOT have the same timbre and will sound entirely different tonaly. Providing you can overcome the inconvenience of an "upright" centre, three pairs of Q1's are a super solution. Regards Eric
Oh, I dont mind an upright Q1 for a centre, but GAF is the problem Hmm oh well, I'll save some cash and wall mount some more Q1s for the rears Dave
Sevenoaks in Exeter has them (beach finish). Was quite surprised by the size of them (Large). Thought on the brief encounter i have had with them that they are indeed a valid alternative to the 34ds's. they seemed to be "brighter" tonally but difficult to ascertain a reliable comparison opinion as the 34's are in my house!. However they had genuine weight and presence and i could not find anything negative to report on the downward firing position of the "bass(?)" driver. IMHO best £400 rear speaker i have heard (if you like di-poles). Cetainly better than the Mission 78 di-poles @£350. Steve
If you are still fretting over mounting them on plaster board then I suggest you use radiator mounting screws. I had a very heavy pair of dipoles on these for years with no problems at all. Richard.
