And better than the Hitachis, according to the latest edtion of What Video mag.It got 5 stars, where as the Hitachi only got 3.

It would thus beat Panasonic and Pioneer.

It's £3770 with stand and looks superb with slim side speakers.

    I can't remember the model number,but I think it's this one below.

Shame you didn't quote the model number, this could be conjecture, buy I'll go on 'cause its interesting (looking for a plasma and this could be the pana6's contender).

Digital Point may have the model number wrong. Looked on the JVC website and the model number is PD-42D30, not AV42D30ES. Yet it looks like the same model going by the picture and description (DP have quoted them in fact).

If it is the PD-42D30, and £3,777, including all the right connections and the stand (yuk) and even a sub (according to What Hi-Fi S&V) it pretty good value. The price they quote is £5,500 which is a pretty hefty saving. What Hi Fi gave it a good review too (what ever you think of them), 5 out of 5. It didn't say if those speakers could be removed though...

For more info try searching for JVC, theres a thread where someone there is waiting for answers too!

Another one to let my eyes and wallet decide.

Also meant to mention the JVC website has a AV42PD20ES listed, but looks nothing like the image on Digital Pionts website.

It all looks like it depends on which letter they got wrong :suicide:

I couldn't give a rats arse what magazine says what. Before you buy a screen go view it alongside its main competition.

Lots of magazines rave on about Hitachi and Philips, but along side the Panasonic they look terrible.

It seems almost impossible to get a truly objective, unbiased opinion about any plasma screen. Everyone has their own opinion (including the magazines) many of which contradict each other.

As others have said, don't buy it before you see it

What Hi-Fi & plasma? not two things that go together really. Everybody raves about the Hitachi WHF give it 3 stars. Other mags think the new Sony is Ok WHF give it 5 stars. The JVC is (if my memory is correct) the first large plasma to be given 5 stars by WHF and it costs £5500 - they have always had a downer on the technology and it's price, so why the change now

They originally reviewed the small Hitachi several months ago, but when I saw it for myself, I couldn't believe that they were talking about the same bit of kit.

Wouldn't read anything into their review at all (mind you I don't trust any reviews anyway)

It might well have been WHF,sorry.

I also found it strange that the Hitachi can only get 3 stars and suddenly a new JVC gets 5.Is it really miles better than the Hitachi, that looks great to my eye anyway. It could be the sub that swung it,big time though, for WHF.

Still,it's another one to add and see on a shorlist and I had to let everyone know.

There was a thread about this a while back here . Looks like I'm going to have to buy WHF to find out more info about it...

I like it in that stand though.

I'd leave the stand personaly, would probably have to pay the bin-men to take it away :D

The speakers are okay, but I'd imagine folk with this kinda setup would have seperates of better quality. I' hope they were removable...I wonder if taking a hacksaw to the speakers would invalidate the warranty? :clown: Would sure make it more pretty!

Lets face it, the JVC would look better sitting on a turd than it does on that stand.

Not exactly minimalist, it must be said. I always thought that's what people liked about plasma, it's a style statement. Like your suits, Mr Presley Sir.

I detect an element of disrespect in that last post. I assume you are reffering to my classic 'Vegas era' outfits?

I am a loyal subject of the King, and old enough to remember you in your days of corporal being. And didn't agent K say you hadn't died, you'd just gone home? Some of those suits were a bit dodgy. The question remains on the picture of the JVC. Noone seems to demo them, I've never set eyes on one, and I see an average of 5 plasmas a day, except right now, you can tell I'm bored. Liam and Joe are bound to have looked at this thread, but themselves seem unable to comment. Has anyone SEEN one?

Edit: I tend to feel that the guys who make the glass are usually the best people to deal with as far as the finished product is concerned. Apparently this is an NEC screen, if a previous thread is anything to go by, it's about 18 month-2 year old NEC glass, I was hideously wrong and could not believe that an acclaimed plasma was using anything but the latest tech. The NEC screeen on which this appears to be based is s*** by todays standards, (perfectly good at the time) NEC have come up with a much better item, the VP4, worthy of anyone's attention, 3 yr warranty, great connectivity and state of the art in almost every way. How the JVC can have a stunning review based on old technology is beyond me, unless the review was done in the local boozer.

Of the new plasmas on the market the worst visually in my view was the Sony floating glass one. I'm a Sony whore and I normally always buy Sony stuff, but on plasma they are a long way away from Panny and Pioneer.

I saw a sony plasma in the new harvey nichols store in Manchster and although the picture wasnt the best there, the design of the screen was awesome.

It was built into a sheet of clear glass with touch sensitive on and off buttons in the clear bit outside of the screen. They were just simply the words "on and "off" in black text on the glass with a green/red led that had no visible wires going to it!

Awsome looking kit at the nice price of £6600

Was this confirmed as having NEC glass though...?

    Or was it conjecture?

Never CONFIRMED, but thought 99% sure. 1024x768 res, =MP3/4 glass. Nothing is ever confirmed, but there are surprisingly few manufacturers of plasma glass, and several of those only build old tech under license from the big boys.
