New JVC 26" 16:9 LCD TV is superb, had a decent loook at it today and worth a look especially for those who think 22" sharp is small and the 30" sharp is to much!

    Where did you see it?

Was it in Cardiff? I have only seen it advertised online at a handful of sites.

There's also a 17" version due in a few weeks. Perfect for the bedroom/kitchen. It has PC input so it's also handy for the home office.

Do you know if the silvercoloured speaker is detachable? And if not, is it detachable from the plasma version?

If you mean the silver strip along the bottom, no it's not detachable. It's part of the set on the 17", 26" and the 42" plasma.

Aaaaaaargh! Why.... WHY do they make such a design statement with a silver coloured speaker, not giving the oppurtunity to take it off! Who thinks of that?

Anyways, thanks for the info. Seems that the Pio is the only option then, although I will be watching tv at 8ft from a 43" screen then.

Nice looking set - I've been asked by my sis to get her a plasma / LCD next week and this looks just the job

How does the PQ compare to the sharp 22" ?

I like the look of the 17" one for bedroom usage, especially to plug into my little sony tr1mp laptop for dvds and divx's.. any indication on price?

EDIT: Actually thinking about it, the 26" is a pretty decent deal, especially with the free dvd player! Though its no good to me if i can't connect it to the d-sub output on my laptop.. can you tell me if the specs on the jvc site are correct? seems stupid to remove the pc input from the 26" when the 17" has it?

The specs are correct. There will be a 23" with PC input available in a month or two but the 26" and the forthcoming 32" don't have a PC input.

ooh, well in that case i think i'll hang out for the 23" assuming its still a WXGA screen, i was about to resign myself to the Phillips 23" model, but i much prefer the looks of the JVC offering, and i was thinking 26" would be a little on the large side for my bedroom.
A month or two you say... hmmm ;)

    Cheers Gary

The 23" is expected to be available in late December but, as with all things electronic, this may or may not be delayed. Basic spec. is as follows:

    Picture
    High Resolution W-XGA (1280*768) pixels
    Contrast Ratio: 400:1
    Brightness: 500cd
    Viewing Angle: 170 degree
    TEXT & Picture Dual Screen
    Auto Aspect Switching
    Widescreen picture modes

    Sound
    A2/NICAM Stereo
    5W + 5W (RMS)
    Subwoofer out

    Others
    New Style Remote
    2 SCARTS
    PC Input (D-Sub 15Pin)
    Front S-IN, AV-IN
    Headphone Jack
    Teletext

Hmm so it seems it is component OR d-sub then?

oh well.. would have been nice to have both, but connecting to my laptop is the vital thing, so i guess if i get a dvd player for it i'll just connect it via scart.

Hmmm i just realised i've completely neglected the need to get the audio from the laptop to the display.. i don't suppose there is any chance that "S-IN" stands for "stereo in" ??
Otherwise does the Toshiba 26WL36P http://www.tvandvideodirect.com/tvandvideodirect_home/viewproduct.asp?id=676 have the connections i need? Thats the only other LCD TV i've seen that i really like the design of (given that this is just as a bedroom screen, design will be all important to the other half).

Cheers mate, gotta say the 23" JVC looks like a great deal at ~£1200 with that free dvd player... Just hope there is a way to get the sound from it.
