need a second hard drive for my PC, but the current one is a couple of years old and I cannot get an exact match for it.

    Maxtor Maxline3 SATA150 250GB

anyone know if I can run a SATA300/SATAII HDD along with this? [IMG]

I intend to wipe my machine and have one drive for the OS and another for DATA. Probably looking to get 500GB and any links to reasonably priced drives would be great!

Also looking to buy an external drive to backup to and seen the Buffalo Drivestation 500GB for £50 in ebuyer, any other suggestions?

    Thanks

The only reason to get an exact match is if you want to run two HDDs in RAID0/striping or RAID1 /mirroring, but it sounds like you don't.

Would recommend the Seagate ST3500320AS 500GB one of the few 500GB drives with 32MB cache. It really flies and is very good value for money at around £45 (unfortunately Scan don't seem to be stocking it at the moment, but it's 47.99 on ebuyer).
