New HD-DVD and Blu Ray Reviews

Also possibly the first film on any format with a 24 bit 48KHz soundtrack? Would like to see that start a real trend, even for lossy codecs.

It is indeed the first, so very good news. The bad news is that the rest of Disney's LPCM tracks on other titles are 16bit, so we might not see a consistent level of 24bit lossless tracks until the Fox BD releases appear (and I'm fairly convinced now that we wont see anything beyond 16bit lossless on HD DVD for a good while, though would love to be proven wrong).

Blu-Ray's going from strength to strength.

If BD camp keeps this up: I might have to import a player rather than just sticking to my original plan of waiting initially for Region B!

The Corpse Bride (Blu-ray)

" I was pleasantly surprised that I felt no such disappointment. 'The Corpse Bride' is a charming, emotional and memorable film that is well worth seeing regardless of age. This Blu-ray release is also a real winner, with a terrific transfer and soundtrack plus tons of extras. A total no-brainer, there is little reason to not pick this one up, even if you already own the film on standard-def DVD."

:smashin:

While it's encouraging to see more releases coming out, I'm a bit wary of buying old material re-released/transferred to new formats.

Dinosaur and Jay & Silent Bob didnt fair as well as Corpse Bride

Dinosaur (Blu Ray) http://bluray.highdefdigest.com/dinosaur.html

"I am sincere in my disappointment with 'Dinosaur.' I wanted it to be a home run for Disney and Blu-ray, but I just wasn't blown away by the video, audio or the HD exclusive content. This disc looks and sounds perfectly fine, but frankly I thought Warner's new 'The Corpse Bride' actually looked better, and it is not even CGI."

Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back (Blu Ray) http://bluray.highdefdigest.com/jayandsilentbobstrikeback.html

"Why it was chosen as one of Buena Vista's inaugural Blu-ray releases is a bit puzzling, as it is not exactly an audio-visual tour de force, and given the lack of extras you better hold on to that two-disc standard DVD set. Still, it delivers on the bottom line, so if you are a fan of Smith you might want to give this one a rent."
