As affordable PAL PS DVD players are not going to be around for a while and as it look like my PT AE100E doesn't support PAL PS, (though my supplying dealer thinks it might do) I have decided to take the plunge and build a HCPC (panic mode) !

One of the first things I'm unsure about is the sound bit.

I want to provide my Yamaha A5 amp with the same bitstream as my DVD player currently provides (ie no Dolby DD or DTS decoding).

Can anyone suggest a high quality sound card that won't cost too much ?

    Tony.

Not trying to put you off the idea of building your HTPC, but there are a number of AE100 owners who have them happily accepting PAL-P. Also, the Limit 9900SE - though not perfect (didn't suit my set up) - is now down to £148 apparently at RS. Seems pretty affordable to me, and you can always try it, return it within 7 days for a refund and still build your PC if you don't like it.

    Just a thought,

Thanks for that, will investigate this DVD player.

What was it about this unit that didn't suite your setup ? Colour perhaps ?

Where did you here about this unit ?

Do you know if its an 'approved' PAL PS machine?

A few of us here got ghosting. It seemed to only effect PJs - i.e. long runs of interconnect - but not all PJ set-ups. It's PAL-P out-of-the-box and there is a lot more info in the DVD players forum...

    Thanks for the info.

I've read that the Limit can suffer from the Chroma Bug.

Can you tell me what to look for to check for this ?

    Regards,

    Tony.
