Does anybody know anything about this:
Dredd 4K Blu-ray
...it's an Answer....
I can expand on that: Just been reported in the thread on ‘the othet forum’ yesterday as ‘basically the same’.
I’m guessing you know what that means?
I’ve got the US one.
Thanks but what about the Dolby Vision?
Reviewer states that there is a ‘well hidden dv on the back cover’. Hasn’t tried it. Under scrutiny reckons the Lionsgate is actually a tad better at HDR10! Both look DNR’d. Do you think DV could make much difference? Polish a lemon (curd)?
Actually I haven’t watched mine yet, still clinging to the major reviews hoping it’s not that bad!
No idea which is why I'm asking.
I think like T2, it might depend on what type and size of TV you are watching it on. It looks great on my TV but it's not 65"+ and from reading many reviews it seems like DNR is not as obvious on my TV. Again that might be to do with the size.
If all you are used to with Dredd is the old UK bluray then the 4K is well worth it - better PQ and AQ than the UK or the US. If you have the Japan/French blu-ray then its more difficult to choose but the 4K definitely has better AQ.
Thanks but I already have the 4k. I'm talking about this release which is apparently Dolby vision.
Sounds like virtually no difference according to the other site's forums. If there was an improvement Id be all over it! The film is never gonna look great, it was filmed this way - and thats probably a good thing.
Yes,that’s the view I’m going with, thank you.I cannot be the best ‘judge’of PQ myself at the moment as although I have an OPPO,I’m still living with a Kuro 508: UHD wise,203 into 508 doesn’t give the best result!Eyeing up the new Panasonics:GZ950/1000 in 65”,then I’ll finally see what it’s all about!
You are going to have a very pleasant surprise when you upgrade! Love my old plasmas but they cant compete with OLED.
I actually like the way the film looks because it suits the story and to be honest it looks great on a 55" LED screen. There is a marked improvement in detail as well as the more obvious HDR moments. I just wish you could get 3D+HDR. I would seriously consider buying a new TV if that combination was ever made.
For those of us that understand that not every film is going to look super clean, clear & sharp, even when shot & produced digitally:Is it not the issue with this one about how it was sourced? The suggestion that like 3.10 to Yuma it was derived from a film-out rather than the 2K DI? Surely the director’s intent;in this case that grungy look is what exists on the DI in it’s best form? Would it be part of that intent to have the end product taken from a film-out,with the losses & additions(dirt, scratches etc) inherent in the process? I find that hard to believe.
I can understand why enthusiasts are hoping for an improvement.
This film is one of the reasons I still have a 4K tv that does 3D as best possible way to view it .
It seem on that German release, your losing the Dolby Atmos track ?
Dredd 4K Blu-ray German one
Dredd 4K Blu-ray US one
A bit like US v UK Cliffhanger then: You can have one Dolby or the other! (Not the only reason to try & choose between these two tho’)
So if the DV makes little difference then you are effectively loosing out.
Got the US one here,no Dolby Vision, just HR-10,so will stick with that one
Likewise. Both have their detractors;jury’s still out last I checked.
And the Atmos track is definitely worth it! I need to watch Dredd again now...for the 11th or 12th time!
Well it can’t be that bad then! You’ve obviously got an OLED Jim,can I ask what size? Edit: Oh & how close? Since one without the other is not as much use.
He IS actually watching it now.....possibly twice!
I would add that the HDR with increased contrast really highlights the grime and dirt in the environment and clothing. The added colours and contrast are perfect for the drug sequences.
Well its in my sig - 55". And yeah I sit too far away - about 9ft - but I can get closer if I want to obviously. 65" would be a bit crazy for my home set up though - believe me, I thought about it though!
Thanks mate, that helps me plan my next upgrade.I really need to see Dredd for myself!
Same old DNR sh*te as the Lionsgate rrlesre Waiting for France or Japan to get this right.
is that possible? I mean, have either of them outdone everyone else in the UHD department yet?
They are doing a good job for sure but their early releases were a miss most of the time.
