looks nice, although it might be uncomfortable to use. Looks like Nintendo are going after an older market - one that wants a discreet item that could be a minidisc player etc, but can play games.

Can't wait personally - much happier to drop this in my bag without worrying about the screen.

    just ordered mine ;)

should be here on the 16th feb in a nice platinum finish.

however not sure if it will be better than an afterburner modded gba , due to the shape more than anything, doesnt look as though it will sit in the hands as well.

I don't think so, it's just the GBA Link Cable and peripheral attachment port.

That's exactly what I first thought - it looks like an old Nintendo Game & Watch. Retro but very very cool :).

Is that what they was called ''Game & Watch.'' Someone had it out the other day, i hadn't seen it for years (that's not meant to sound rude!:D) The gameplay was ace, having to go up the ramps while jumping over those barrels to hit ''Kong'' at the top. Absolute classic. Takes some beating such a simple design like that.

Gonna have to have ago on it now, if i can find it. What year was they out Groundy?

If i remember right, it's still got my initals on the back from when i took it to school on ''toy day.'' :D

Does anyone please know anything about any potential power conversion issues?

Say I get a Japenese one, would I need a power down/up converter? Any potential ideas of costs, difficulty of acquiring one etc etc? Is it going to be so much grief that I'm better off waiting an extra 6 weeks?

    Cheers :)

There will be no issues with import machines. Current GBA's are region free and all games work on all systems. The new one should be no different. You can import a Japanese one and play UK games, as well as being able to use UK peripherals and AC-Adapters etc.

Might soon, i can't resist its ''well trick.'' Did you see my question a couple of post's back? about the adaptor to play GBA games on your TV through the GC.

Yes - thought I forgot to reply on that ;). I don't think the GBA Adapter is out until March (could be wrong though).

Proberly because of all this merging and swapping forums. No wonder i couldn't find this thread, i was looking in ''Games'' still

That's why i bought my GBA, so i could play Mario on my TV through my Cube. Soon found out that i couldn't after buying all the leads, power pack ect. Played on it a while and sold it about a month later for a tenner more than what i paid for it! :D

I've got a piece of kit that allows you to play GBA games on your tv :)

Been out a while. No soldering required, but you do have to take the back off your GBA and use the one provided (all screwdrivers etc provided too in the box).

I got the NTSC one as it was the only one available at the time, but you can get PAL ones now too.

It's not nearly as good as the Nintendo Cube one though, by the looks of it. Can't wait! :D Yep, due out around March I think, in Japan and the US. here are some details from Nintendo Europe site:

In 2003, Game Boy will make its big screen debut, thanks to the Nintendo GameCube Game Boy Player.

When it hits Europe next year, this amazing peripheral will allow you to play Game Boy Advance and Game Boy games on your television, through a Nintendo GameCube.

    Q. What is the idea behind the Game Boy Player?
    A. Although people like to enjoy games on the go, we received many requests for a tool that allows you to play Nintendo's handheld games on a TV. The Game Boy Player enables you to do just that, so you can now play your favourite Game Boy and Game Boy Advance games on your TV at home and your friends will be able to follow the action on screen.

    Q. How do players control the game? Do they still play on a GBA?
    A. There are three play possibilities. Gamers can use the Nintendo GameCube controller or, even better, the WaveBird wireless controller. But if you still want to hold a GBA, you can connect the two systems with the Nintendo GameCube Game Boy Advance Cable and control games with the handheld.

    Q. Can I also play classic Game Boy cartridges with the Game Boy Player?
    A. Of course. Like the GBA, nearly all existing Game Boy and Game Boy Color games can be enjoyed on your TV screen. So you can play pretty much everything - from Tetris to Metroid Fusion!

    Q. Will the Game Boy Player mean more messy wires?
    A. Not at all. It fits snugly underneath the Nintendo GameCube console, and connects to the Hi Speed Port, which also provides its power - so no extra clutter is necessary.

    Q. I want one! When will the Game Boy Player be released?
    A. It will be available in Japan in March 2003, the USA in May, and Europe also in 2003, but we haven't set a date yet. We'll keep you posted on the website as soon as a release date is announced.

What would be a good selling point is if the GC adaptor would allow split screen "link-up", given the GBA SP I can't really see any reason for a TV version as it will hopefully resolve the main issue with the current GBA, bad lighting. If you want to retro game at home you are better off using the emu scene and buying a decent joypad for your PC.

    Or buying the original consoles.

Thanks mate... I have to admit, I'm getting mixed replies on this - Some people are saying an ordinary non Nintendo UK AC adapter will work, some say only the Nintendo one will work so some sort of power converter would be necessary, etc, etc!

I guess I'm not keen on buying any sort of power converter as I don't want to be lugging that around along with the AC adapter should I go away or wotever - That was always the beauty of the other GameBoys - Batteries can be bought anywhere, but I'll sacrifice them for an SP :)
