I hope these Blue Laser players will be able to play traditional DVD's.

My rack is already full of equipment without having to squeeze another player in there!

I read a year or so ago that new laser development will be able to be tuned to read standard DVD's.
Just a shame that the UK will not see this hardware for years and even then it'll only be used to cram more episodes of Corrie and Eastenders onto recordable DVD.
Other countries will be using it for HDTV material:(

Well for those territories stuck in standard definition tv, blue lasers could be the "breakthrough" that makes recordable DVD viable.

By viable I mean the holy grail of a single layer disc with a high bit rate and good recording times - 6-8 hrs - ie enough to compete with a VHS in long play.

If one of these came out I'd seriously consider an upgrade.
