New DVD player and DD 5.1 setup required

    I currently have a Toshiba 32ZD26P tv connected to a TiVo and Sky. I also have a cheapy Toshiba SD220E DVD player that I would like to upgrade plus explore the audio delight of 5.1 surround.

    I have a budget of £700 for a new player/receiver/speaker. I would like the player to output progressive scan as I have a number of NTSC discs plus I also have quite a few DVD-R and DVD+R discs so it'll need to be compatible with both those formats. My room is 16ft x 13ft and I'd be very interested to hear what people recommend I audition for that kind of money.

    So far I have come up with a Panasonic DMR-E85 (great because it also records, but I am not sure about DVD+R compatibility or NTSC progressive scan) a Panasonic SA-XR15 amp coupled to some Panasonic TP10 speakers.

    All advise gratefully received.
