hi peeps...

i've currently got a pioner 440H - not a bad bit of kit but i don't use the recording facilities AT ALL anymore due to sky+

I also dont use the divx player on it as about 50% of stuff i try to play is out of audio sync, so kindof disheartened by it...

so, i'm looking to sell it on and get a DVD/Divx unit that:

• has a nice user interface
• will reliably play the vast majority of divxs
• reasonably cheap
• reasonably slimline

so, any recommendations greatfully recieved :)

Pioneer 393 ? I have the big brother thr 696 which is a awesome player imo and also have the older low end model 470. I mainly watch xvid and its great plus you can get good 3rd party firmware which add some nice features.

The Philips DVP5960/05 is £49.99 in Comet and ticks all of the above boxes. It's even better if you use the custom firmware (the official Philips firmware shows only the first few letters of file names). If you do a search there is a huge thread about this player.

I am also looking for a DivX player, in my case to supplement an HD-XE1. I have been considering the above Philips but am also looking at the Toshiba SD270E, which can be picked up for just over 30 quid.

hmm... that pioneer looks good and although i'd like to go for it so my remote on my pioneer amp could do all the work, i just dont trust pioneer to be able to play all my divxs my 440 has really let me down in that aspect...

i think that toshiba looks the way to go...

right, should i get:

samsung hd870 - £45 from empire (google checkout)
toshiba sd270e - £32
toshiba sd370e - £42

basically, i have a samsung 26" lcd and a pioneer avreciever... will i get much avantage from this upscaling and hdmi malarchy? also how do i route that through the amp/av reciever?

maybe i just keep it simple with the sd270 and use scart?
