Dolby always planned to release this as a sound format, and from PLII's birth they harped on about it's future capability for 7.1 surround sound processing.
Glad to see they've finally got it out into the product arena - now, if only something more affordable had it!
This has been on the Tag site for a little while now and hopefuly we will be able to install the software in a week or two - abeit at 150.00 (but there you go)
They're only Matrix surrround channels though aren't they, like in the Cinema?
You might say (rather crudely) that it's Dolby's me too "Tri-Field" or "Logic 7".
That said i am (honestly) expecting great things. IMHO the white jacket boys at Dolby have a rough idea of what they are about and certainly there last couple of outings (THX-EX and PL2) have my stamp of approval.
Do you see this as a true rival to Logic 7?
Probably no use in a 9.6ft wide room though,as there wouldn't be much room for all the rear speakers.
Impossible to compute captain.
I (obviously) have not heard it yet and Logic 7 (as i understand it) has undergone many years of refinements and updates that although particular versions were unknown to me i have ALWAYS thought as a splendid format.
I shall most certainly "unlock it" on day of official release (before end of the month hopefully) and will post thoughts accordingly, Certainly am quite keen to have-a-go though, if just to overlay it on DD/DTS and compare with virgin decoding and THX2.
This should make people happy that just brought new amps!
