    Eric.
Out of interest how "accurate" is the re-eq? Does it replicate filters exactly on re-install? or does it "drift" a little.
I forsee possible ownership of an DD18 at some point in the future if my employment remains stable (tough going at present :( .

    Dom,
I don't like to say better as they have very similar performance. There are a few minor changes on the amp and driver. Power output remains the same.
The DD range represents itself as HGS power that you can "get right" in any room.

From my experience with this subwoofer over the last few days, this is probably an understatement.

    Prices are as follows,
    DD-10 £2100,
    DD-12 £2450
    DD-15 £2800
    DD-18 £3300

These are for black gloss. For Cherry and Maple add £100 to the above prices.

    Hi Steve :)
This is one of the things Velodyne have tried hard (and succeeded) with.
We have a lot to talk about. This dam thing is amazing. The equalization points can be moved up and down in increments of 1Hz. Rather than being able to adjust phase to 0 or 180 degrees (at best from zero to 180 degrees with some subs), this thing allows almost infinate adjustment of phase FROM 0-180 at any and every frequency notch.

In short, there is much more to this sub and the EQ system as applied by Velodyne then I ever imagined.

They are already up to software version 3 with more upgrades (and facilities) coming before shipping, which by the way looks like end August.

Can't wait to get one strapped in the Batcave

    Eric,

If you can't track down an HGS-18 for me I think I may be interested in one of these, though I may have to settle for a 15" due to the price increases.

I was thinking like, I wonder if the next cleaver processor-subwoofer systems will utilize not only auto-eq but also auto sub sonic filter (a microphone registers where the sub drops off, ie, 16hz, and the processor automatically removes 16hz and below)

The old HGS18 was going on the power buys for £2000? The new one (not in power buy) £3300.

There seems to be a large price jump (even taking into account the power buy savings on the old model.)

How can they justify this? :(

Wasn't the rrp for the HGS-18 £2700? The increase in price is probably worth it, considering what you're getting.

Lets hope Uncle Eric can sort out a huge saving with a power buy.
In a couple of months I should be in a position to upgrade. However I was hoping to limit myself to £2K.

I think it's already been established that there won't be a powerbuy on these. Should have bought Uncle Eric's last HGS-18 while you had the chance....

Just confirmed. Definately no power-buys on Velodynes new Digital Drive range. I'm told demand has already outstripped the first production runs. :( :(

    Eric,
Can you post some pics of the DD18 or 15?
Curious what the cherry & black versions will look like.
Also will the firmware/software be user upgradeable?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Cajunlab,
I have some pictures of the DD-15 in cherry taken at Cedia last week. I'll dig out the pictures from my digital camera and post them here in a few days.
We are already up to software version 3 with more on the way.

    Eric,
Are you performing the software upgrades yourself? How?
USB port, firewire or RS232 serial port?
If so that is VERY encouraging.....the sub could improve a year after the purchase!

Upgrades can be performed by end users themselves through an RS232 port. The version 3 upgrade is quite something and apparently, we've not seen nothing yet according to Velodyne

It seems they have some stunning tricks up their sleeves planned for the DD's.

    Hi Adz,
They do look different. For example, they have rounded edges and therefore look a little more stealth. As mentioned before, they also come in some nice wood finishes as opposed to the Henry Ford colour. Personally, I like black but there you go.
The annoying bright blue light at the front has gone and has been replaced by a rather cool looking blue backlit Velodyne logo. This backlit logo can off course be switched off via the remote when required.

Heres the embarrasing bit. I accidently deleted the DD-15 snap I took. All that's left of the Velo stand is a picture of a friend of mine in a highly defensive stance who looks to be fiercely guarding the Velo with his life. You can just see the Cherry DD-15 (bottom right) with it's Beyer Dynamic microphone sitting on top.

I know Gordon Fraser has some shots of the DD-15 (I saw him take them) and I'll ask him to send them over to me for posting here.

Now that sounds pretty mental !

I always liked the blue LED on the HGS.

In the dark, it was the blue button of power!!!!!!

    Eric,
An odd question but...is the driver protected by an "anti-little finger" mesh, a little like the CHT?
