The true replacement for the 5803/A1SR won't be released until early next year and as yet no specs have been made available. I wouldn't be surprised if this updated model (A1SRA) is only ever available in Japan (might be wrong though!! LOL).

Does anyone know if it is still possible to upgrade a AVC- A1SE? Does anyone know if there will ba any other updates available, say one that would include a 'standard' i-Link connection rather than the 'Denon link' so that it could be used with Pioneer DVD players etc?

Might be worth enquiring with Denon UK to see if they have any upgrade boards left. You never know, you might be lucky!. The next upgrade planned for the A1SR (and the upgraded A1SE) is Dolby PL2-X.

Don't know about any other I-Link or Firewire upgrades for these models, maybe the replacement model will have something.

Is that statement actually correct? I thought L7 (Logic 7) can do this - and that has been around for a much longer time ... !?

Not sure if Logic 7 can do 6.1 Reiner. That's where Dolby PL2X differs I think.

Well, for DPLIIx 6.1 and 7.1 is the same since the rear channel (surround back) is mono anyway.
In case of L7 you have two side channels instead of two surround back(s), so it's 7.1 (or rather 7.0 since there is no LFE, see also below) already.

Interesting to see however that the sub is not animated on the Dolby page, i.e. the .1 comes from bassmanagement, not from DPLII(x) ...

Are you sure the KAVC-A1SE will also get the upgrade? Any idea of other features besides DPLIIX?

According to Denon USA they will be doing the PL2X upgrade for the AVR 5803 (A1SR) first and will then do the upgraded AVR 5800 (A1SE). I don't know of any other features that will be added at the same time, if any!

So i'm guessing it should be fairly cheap if its just gonna be DPLIIX?

    Reiner.

I would bring to your attention to the fact that PL2x has stereo surround sides AND stereo surround backs, all four channels are full range (20-20) with assignable bass management.

It is a direct competitor to Logic 7 but differs in that if required a "full" 7.1 mix can be made from an ES/EX soundtrack.

This info is available from www.dolby.com.
Having lived with it for a few weeks now i think it is rather super (much like THX2) for 2 channel sources (T.V/Sky etc) but not to sure i would ever use it over 5.1 streams - it is not the match of THX2 in this respect IMHO.

    Regards

    Steven.

Not sure as Denon USA say it's both a software and hardware upgrade, which I find rather odd. I would have thought it would be software only.
