new cpu ?

    hi guy's ...is it much of a job replacing my cpu... its probaly 5 years ish old now emachines 380 2.20 ghz

    any ideas can I replace it no worries ...and how much £££'s

    just trying to upgrade my pc as I go

    about the only bit you will be able to reuse is the Hard Disk.

    I would guess that as the PC is 5ish years old then you would probably need to replace the motherboard if upgrading the CPU as newer CPU's will almost certainly have a different pin layout. This would then probably mean new RAM and buying a new OS (OEM software is locked to motherboard (legally at least)). So you may find it easier (and cheaper?) to start from scratch.

    However you may find an old compatable CPU for your PC that offers a bit more speed which would make life easier.
