OK - so you get your standard single disc, bare bones issue.

Then a few months later you get your two disc "Collector's Edition".

Then the following year you get your 4 disc "Ultimate Collection".

But here's a new one, just before a new movie is released to the cinema you release a super-deluxe, limited edition, collector's set of two DVDs, packed with documentaries, extras and loads of accompanying goodies. But -and here's the radical idea- NO MOVIE.

Coming soon on R1 King Kong: Peter Jackson's Production Diaries box set (due on Dec 13th SRP $39.98), which packs booklets, production artwork prints and more. The two DVDs contain his video production diaries.

You'd have to be a complete mug to buy it... can't wait!

Think I'll wait to see the film first though - the Diaries might give away the ending! :rotfl:

If only we could be sure this material wasn't going to turn up six months from now attached to the DVD release of the movie.

    But we can't, can we?

    :nono:

Surely they should be giving this stuff away as its technically promotional material as the film isn't even out yet.

Next they'll have people paying to watch sneak peek trailers, mark my words :lesson:

Indeed. These video diaries have been appearing for free, one per week for the last year or so on the Kong website.

    Now they're a LIMITED EDITION COLLECTOR'S ITEM.

Still - it does look like a lovely item for the Kong fanatic.

OK - I'm one and GOD I'm tempted!!!

They already did for the Star Wars movies - people were paying to see movies which had the trailer showing and then leaving the Theatre without watching the main movie! :suicide: Which just goes to show how little the big movie companies understand their market - there was apparently a big debate in 20thCFox in the mid-nineties as to whether there would still be an audience for Star Wars all these years later, which is why they green-lighted the original trilogy Special Editions as a tester before they went ahead with Episode1

I know what you mean about watching " the making of " type documentaries before the film is released.

I remember watching one about The Mummy and they were showing how they made the scene with the Sand Storm, and in particular a scene where Rachel Weisz was thrown out of the side of storm. In the documentary they showed Rachel Weisz on a swing and then jumping free and then they superimposed the sand storm over the swing.

Every time i watch the film and i get to the scene i can't take my mind of the swing.

I now never watch any making of documentaries before after watching the films

Have a look on the official fan site and you can watch all the production diaries for free.

    http://www.kongisking.net/kong2005/

I've got them all backed up, as there are fears that they may be forced to take them down with the DVD release due.

$39.98 for this and probably another $20.00 for the bare bones = $60.00 for what equates to pretty much as an Ultimate Edition.

I bought three DVDs yesterday for a total of £17.97 - Collateral, Memphis Belle and Gangs Of New York. My brother paid over £40 for the same disks.

For me, there's just no point buying DVDs at release any more unless they are an uncut version from the States, or released earlier there than here - and I've heard that certain sites are now blocking sales to the UK where the film is still out in the cinema here.

I hadn't encountered this before either - I heard from a friend that Land Of The Dead wouldn't be shipped to the UK as it was still in cinema release.

I've now had a quick look myself at the sites he mentioned and it turns out Land Of The Dead isn't on release in the States until Oct 18th anyway - guess he should have read the small print first.

Will be interesting to see if he can still get it on the 18th.

This seems to be a cheaper version without all the extras, and it is released earlier :smashin:
