The A80 is the new flagship camera in Canon's PowerShot A-series range. Packed with features to put creativity back into the hands of the photographer, the PowerShot A80 brings together a newly designed 3x optical zoom with fast f/2.8 aperture, Vari-angleLCD monitor and nine-point AiAF (Artificial intelligence Automatic Focus). A 32 MB CompactFlash card is included with the camera, enabling it to store between 14 and 337.

This is a 4 Mp one folks.

unfortunalty, from what i have read, it doesnt do the 640x480 video. Just the 320x240. Apart from that, a big step up!
Just wish they had put on a flash synch.

do a check on pricerunner, but I've found it to be around £285.

But remember, it comes with a 32Mb card, not a 16Mb like the A70, so there's a tenner back right there.

Also, if I'm not mistaken, the viewfinder is optical, whereas the vf on the A70 is electronic. Anyone put me right/wrong on that.

Both the A70 & A80 have optical viewfinders. Unfortunately they only give around 80% coverage.

Saw a good review of the A80 last week at http://www.dcresource.com/reviews/canon/powershot_a80-review/index.shtml
Ordered one yesterday from Cameras2u, who are matching Amazon's £279.49, and are one of the few vendors with stock according to pricerunner, see here http://www.cameras2u.com/products/details.cfm?product=9026A006AA
First impressions of the A80 are good, it's a more solid beast alltogether than the A70 while being virtually the same size. I find the swivel LCD very handy, anyone who's used a G2 or G3 will be right at home. Picture quality is very good, certainly on a par with the S45 or Ixus 400 I'd say. Worth checking out if you're after a compact digicam with manual control.

    Will.

p.s. Toad - the viewfinder is optical.

p.p.s. Nunew - stick with your S45, the A80 adds only the swivel LCD.
