Hi,
I am looking into building a new HTPC.
I want as fast a boot as possible while keeping the price low!
Looking at £400 budget for the base unit only.
Must include Blueray drive and 720 res for my PH9 Panasonic Plasma Via HDMI and DVI.
Optical out sound (DD and DTS) as well as HDMI HD sound for future use.

This will not include any form of TV card as I have a PVR for that.

I do not need a large storage as I will have a nas for that.

So is using a Solid State hard drive a good idea to keep speeds up?

Also what OS should I get? XP or Vista?

Cheers

Solid State hard drive and keeping the price low do not go hand in hand.
Just look through these forums for the the single most common HTPC.
AMD 780G motherboard with either a AMD 4805e or AMD 5050e processor. Vista Home premium all the way, 32 or 64bit will do.

You can get motherboards with QuickBoot that works just like Hibernate in windows whioch will boot in 10-15 seconds, some claim up to 4seconds boot time
