Had an itch that needed scratching. Decided to convert front room into cinema room. Saved up last year and got some great bargains in xmas sale. Decided to go for 7.2.1 but 2 extra ceiling speakers wired parallel as the room was big enough.

    Kit:

    Denon AVR X4200 W
    Denon PMA 720 AE
    Q Acoustics 3010 5.1
    Q Acoustics surround back speakers
    Q Acoustics 6.5" x 4 ceiling speakers
    PS4
    PS3
    Sky HD box
    Epson EH TW 6600 projector
    120" electric screen
120 metres good grade speaker cable

Started with blank canvas regarding room, but want to keep it normal living room with everything as far as possible concealed.

Fitted projector bracket and spent along time how to wire everything up without taking floor boards up.

Cut holes in ceiling and existing coving and carefully threaded speaker cables, projector power cable and hdmi through coving to front of room. Worked a treat.

Wasn't prepared to pay the price for speaker hoods so got plastic buckets, cut out lugs, lined with acoustic sound proofing, fitted amazing. Total cost £20 for all 4, saving about £200. The lugs on the speakers pull the buckets in when fitting to ceiling, amazing result. And lucky !!!

Fitted 6 speaker brackets around the room, cutting away plaster to conceal all wiring. Cables then run under carpet. Hated this job

Once all wiring done, did dummy run to make sure everything worked. Had a nightmare being a novice, couldn't get both amps to work together to produce atmos sound. Eventually sent 4200 back to Denon who replaced unit. Eventually got everything working, really long story for another time, stripped it all out and prepared for decorating. Fill holes in coving I'm rubbish at filling but got there eventually. ImageUploadedByAVForums1460410636.424922.jpg

Your colour looks awesome, you've made me think about decor / curtains lol, I'm on a budget and the curtains cost more than my cinema set up

This is a slightly better picture of that end of the room as the rooms more finished with the curtains etc. The curtains were only £40 from IKEA and are full black out so ideal for movies etc.

I've speced up similar kit for my build, are those the q acoustic wall brackets? If so can the speaker turn so it's parallel with the wall?
I've got a narrow room and will be mounting the 3010's on the side walls.

Yes, excellent value and full rotation and up and down. Easy to fit neat and tidy, £17 each from Q acoustics themselves

Just black out blinds to fit, then chill out.
Really pleased with the set up even though I took the risk of using 11 speakers, running 4 ceiling speakers in parellel. Set up was perfect.
Tried San Andreas first of, what a relief when Dolby Atmos came up on the AV.
Clearly a wolf in sheets clothing, just 2 mins to turn it from normal living room to full blown cinema experience.
    Total budget about £4000. Bargain
