Just upgraded from avr100 to 300 and am mightily impressed (even with my in adequate speakers. Two questions:-

    1) how do I determine the firmware level of my unit?

    2) any recommendations for floor standing fronts that would do the avr300 justice in stereo mode (I use the machine 70% music, 30% movies)

    Any advice greatly appreciated!

You didn't say what your speaker budget is. If I were buying new mains for the AVR300 under $3K U.S., I would get the Dynaudio Audience 72SE ($2500). For half that I would get Dynaudio Audience 52SE. With a higher budget ($3K+) I would get Dynaudio Contours. Below $1K U.S. I have no specific recommendations.

But my best advice is: Go out and listen for yourself, and use your own ears (not ours) to decide.

    agree with dwette.

There are a pair Dynaudio contour 1.8mkIIs floorstanders on ebay at the moment for only £599 (2 days left)...

If I hadn't just bought 1.3mkIIs I'd snap these up myself.
The 1.3mkIIs sound fantastic in stereo on my AVR300 (and in surround too).
I got a matching Contour Centre and am using M&k K4s at rear. Sounding very nice!

You will need a fair bit of space for Dynaudio speakers though as they can boom if too close to back walls.
