I am interested in buying a new AV system. I have a limited budget and would like something that is not so bulky too but also with some quality.

I was thinking of the Pioneer 545 DVD player, the VSX-C300 amplifier as it compliments it and Mission FS2AV. I would be grateful for anyone's opinion on such a set up, especially the amplifier as yet to read any reviews on it.

I have priced such to be around £1040.00 roughly so say a budget of around that to work with - suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Djinn, had a listen to the VSX, I reckon you should listen to tehe equivalent priced Denon amp as this is in a different league for surround capability. Friend has the Pioneer DVD below the 545 and it seems fine.

I reckon you need to listen to a few amps. If you are buying speakers at the same time any good shop should spend the time to let you audition a selection of amp and speaker combinations. Reading reviews usually helps draw up a short list.

Techtronics (www.techtronics.com) almost surely do a region free 545.

Thanks guys, u have both given me room for thought. One problem though is room for speakers - I don't have much, I take it the missions are not so good then, any suggestions for a good pair of sats/ subs for around £500 max.

mission fs2-av were £411 at a few sites,
think they are around £450 now.

wall mounted they wouldn't take much space.

Techtronic's price of £229 for the Pioneer 545 does not include VAT. So T'tronics are actually charging £269 including VAT. The next model down is the 444 which they sell at £199 including VAT. I'm thinking of getting that one for myself because the extras that the 545 has to offer do not justify the extra £70 I have to pay.

Or if anyone can suggest any other players around that price that I should be looking at, which offer clear picture and audio, please let me know. Any idvice is greatly appreciated.

    Thanks.
