    Dear all,

I am the happy owner of two SVS PB12-Plus since early 2004, as they just came on the market.
I was looking for a Sub which could cope with my large room and finally stumbled across SVS about 2 years ago. It then took about another years time filled with consultation and chat, as no matching product was ready, but when the PB12-Plus (in Black) popped up, I took my chance.

The perfomance is simply outstanding, and I am telling anyone I can reach about it... :D
I am writing within the german board http://www.hifi-forum.de so far to give advise to the german speaking community...

Also, I set up a page with all SVS products, which you might find usefull, although it's in german ;)

    SVS-Overview

Here are some impressions of the room:

    Welcome to the forum. :)

Thanks for sharing your insights into SVS ownership and the superb pictures of your delightful room.

I'm sure many of our members are now green with jealousy.

Nice fish tank! Unusual and dramatic situation right in front of the window.

Could you give us a list of the rest of your equipment please?

    Nimby

    Hi Nimby,

it's surely not my intention to turn anyone to green with jealousy. Most of my stuff is 10 to 20 years old and came along by time. Only recently, after moving into the new house, I had to upgrade a little as the room was just too big for the previous configuration. That was the time where the SVS Subwoofers had to come to the rescue.

The placement of the Plasma in front of the window is a compromise, I know. We did not want to sit in a way, that the view is directed to walls instead of the window to the garden and the living room / the fireplace.

I stored the living room part of my equipment in the "Kit List":

    PreAmp, Sources & Display:

    Parasound AVC-2500 - Preceiver
    Panasonic NV-H75 HQ VHS
    Panasonic NV-HD610 VHS
    Denon DCD-1500
    Yamaha KX-393
Audio Linear TD-4001, SME-Arm, AT System
    Denon DVD-2910 (HDMI cabling)
    Pioneer PlasmaDP 434 HDE

    LineAmp & Speakers:

Parasound HCA 2003 (Front Bass & Center)
    Parasound HCA 1500A (Front Mids/Tweeter)
    Parasound HCA 806 (Rear Bi-/Di-/Monopol-Surrounds)

    Infinity Kappa 9.2i (Front)
    JMLab Electra CC-901 (Center)
    JMLab Electra SR-900 (Surround Bi-Pole)
    Canton Ergo R51 (Rear Dipole)
    Canton Pullmann (Rear Monopol)
    SVS PB12-Plus (2 x Subwoofer)

Here are the Subs in the room during testing.
Luckily the do not drag too much attention to themselves after their placement beside the couch.

    Thanks for the welcome.

I'm certainly just as mad about SVS as anyone could be.
It was only the budget which stopped me to buy more ;)

I'll have to decide on the benefit of any PB12-Ultra upgrade, once they come out. My Preamp's volume range goes from -70 to +30dB in its display, and the Sub's are running into their compression limit at the +20dB setting which results in 113,5 dB SPL instead of 115,5 dB at the seating place.

Even at this level there is still no sign of strain or overload, which means to me that an Ultra may not offer too much of an added value about the two Plus Woofers. Normal hearing sessions are done with -10 dB, louder ones with 0 dB. I've never watched a movie with +20dB so far.
Which leaves me even more headroom.

If there just wouldn't be the headache not to own their best driver... :suicide:

Heh heh, I know what you mean. There is a different tonal character to the Ultra driver though, and I prefer the sound of it to the plus, there isn't really that much difference in outright extension though, unless the room is very large.

The "room" is the whole open floorspace of the first and partly of the second floor, unfortunately. It sums up to about 280 cubic meter.
That's why a SVS was needed to get some real bass feeling.

I know it's difficult, but what would be the real difference between an Ultra and a Plus? "Tonal character" is nothing I can make up my mind with.

The best person to ask would be Tom V at SVS, he posts here so you could send him a PM.

:) Tom! Yep, theoretically, you are right, but Tom is the most diplomatic person I have met in my lifetime ;)
Maybe he has heard that many Sub's that I just can't deal with his description? A couple of dB more headroom, what does that mean to me?
We have chatted over 9 month before I finally decided on the two PB12-Plus, I could never force him to a definite statement about the Plus/Ultra differences in my room...

To be honest, I think the biggest improvement would probably be with a pair of SVS B4 Plus boxes, but then we are talking serious money. The extra extension gained from the Ultra Drivers won't be that much to be honest, as far as I know.

I wish I could give even more info, but my knowledge is limited to the advice above :(

    Thanks, anyway.
It's a 700 EUR question. An investment, which I may not go for as long there is no true reason...

Hey Oldie, (na, jetzt machst du auch noch die anderen Länder verrückt nach SVS!)

nice to meet other german guys here - especially such brilliant information provider for svs products. (in germany he is/was the first svs user)
If you gonna change your setup anytime - I would probably take one of the PB12-plus! ;)

Yep, they blend in very nicely :smashin:
Even they are separated, they still deliver the +6dB gain @ the listening place when played together, as it is requested by Ron & Tom for proper dual positioning.
I am a very happy man, since I found these Sub's.

A little crazy too, you are right, but this hasn't changed much. That's what I've been before, otherwise I wouldn't have bought them ;)

Please excuse, I will not even try to answer in your language, with all these lenghty words... :hiya:

    Big thanks Bass-Oldie,
Yours was the perfect thread to show my wife how big the PB12-Plus/2 is, it looks so reasonably small in your room and you have 2 of them!
Plus the fact that you had lamps and ornaments arranged on the top.
All that's left is to break the news of the price!!!!!!!!!
Still waiting for shipping costs to New Zealand, which is the deal breaker, I may have to settle for the ISD instead of the Plus.
    Des.

    Hi Des,

thanks, that's what the pictures are for.
The shipping cost for both subs should not be too much different, as they are pretty close in size and weight.
I have a fellow here in Germany who bought the -ISD/2 and now wants to UG towards a -Plus as his wife is after the cherry finish.
So please be aware that the ISD/2 is only available in the black textured enclosure.

    Hi,
Black it has to be, so as to child proof the enclosure! Sticky fingers with crayons!
