I'm looking for some advice from this forum please:
I currently have a Yamaha A5 amp connected to a Pioneer 656a and a Sony CD player - for movies I am more than happy but for stereo performance it is very lacking. The sound the Yamaha amp produces in stereo mode is very slow and quite muddled - especially for classical musical, my two options for upgrade are as follows:
(1) New AV Amp - something like Marantz 5300
(2) Keep current amp - use pre-outs to either a separate integrated or power amp.
As I'm pleased with the movie performance of the A5 I'm very tempted with the 2nd option. Anyone know whether the pre-amp stage of the Yamaha is good enough to make a decent power amp worth adding ?
Thanks for any assistance, Mark.
