Thought I would post this, just over a whole second faster then my Fiesta ST to 60 but with Quattro.
But to me it looks very very odd, I hope the 3 door version looks better? Anyway 228bhp and 370Nm of torque, 0 to 60 in 5.8, from around £24,900. And manual as standard! Take that one Renault!

    Taken from the review here:

    Audi S1 2014 review | Auto Express

    Which had the verdict off:

The Audi S1 is an interesting hybrid of upmarket supermini and high-performance hatch. Squeezing the S3’s running gear underneath has been a success, adding plenty of power and reassuring grip. It also looks subtle, but upmarket in a way that a Fiesta ST doesn’t. However, it’s not as fun as the cheaper fast Ford, either, and lacks the all-round ability of a slightly pricier Golf GTI. But because it’s priced between the two, and offers generous kit and four-wheel drive, too, it finds a sweet spot in the market all of its own. Audi has always been good at finding a niche...

Its going to be interesting to see road tests on this as I can imagine it having a massive amount of torque steer

I really like the look of the A1. Sat in one when I ordered our Q3, nice place to be. Will be my courtesy car when the Q3 gets serviced, although I doubt it will be an S1. Shame.

Torque steer with 4 wheel drive? Do the other Audi S cars do that?

Have you got rid of your Scirocco? I think the Q5 looks nice, Q3 not too bad, but I find the A1 just too small for Audi's design language of high metal sides and big round corners to work properly? But it's obviously personal taste.

Yes a road test will be interesting, actually a road test between this and a Fiesta ST with Mountune upgrade and the new top end special edition Mini Cooper would be very interesting.

I've ordered a Q3 which should be here late May or early June, the lease on the Scirocco ends mid June and the dealer is more than happy to keep the Q3 until that lease ends. I did think about buying the Scirocco with the end balloon payment but because of my arthritis I've been stuck in the car twice in the last few months, last time was Saturday so I need to get something I can get into easier.

Apart from getting in and out of late the Scirocco hasn't missed a beat. Once in it has proved comfortable and very easy to live with, especially with the DSG box, someone is going to have a great car after me. I've got the Q3 with the 175 bhp diesel, Stronic box and Quattro.

As for the 'metal' shape of the A1, I really do like it and even the basic ones have a good low sporty driving position.

I bought an A1 1.2tfsi for the woman when she started to drive, and it was a cracking little car, particularly the quality of the interior.

The S1 is a tempting prospect!

Since when did a 2.0 engine with 228bhp warrant a quad exhaust  , makes the package look a bit tacky which is a shame as I like the concept.

It's a Audi styling que, all of the S models have them, RS are 2 oval and the S are 4 round.

I realise they are doing it with the newly released S models but it just looks lame IMO.

S3, Golf R and now S1 with quad exhausts..... :thumbsdow

Despite the ridiculous number of exhausts, it shall be added to my list of cars to test drive next although I don't think the size is practical enough for my needs.

Been waiting for one of these to be released for a while.

Looks a very nice little package. Be nice to spec it in 3 door with a few bits! I'm not keen on the four pipes but hopefully someone like milltek will release a new pipe for it and they can be swapped for two oval pipes 'rs style'

I'll be keeping an eye on the Audi website for the car to be added to the configurator :).

They've got to justify £25K one way or another! ;)

Ah, sorry to hear that Gibbsy, I can imagine a coupe is a bit tricky to get in and out off with arthritis, a Q3 will certainly be easier I would think, also Quattro safety too. My mum can get in my Fiesta Ok but has to help her legs to get out, she has a bad back and arthritis knees, she says my ST's seats though are the best thing ever for her back, especially when the heated elements are on!

Dear oh dear, already thinking of mods haha! I'm not sure about the exhaust, but it is Audi's S trim level standard. I think a pair of flatter oval ones may work better? Because it's a little car? Or perhaps a twin pair of centre exhausts would have been better?

Nah twin center is like a Mini Cooper s or an 80s BMW 5 series :)

I'm not sure about the looks of the s1. It looks to me like a vauxhall Adam. Don't like that either.

Seems a great time for hot hatches nevertheless.

I don't think that colour does much for it, maybe better in blue or red.

I think you are right. The new style interiors of the s3 and s1 don't do it for me either. It's got a French look to it for me.

I'm not liking the S1 look. Quad exhausts, not good on such a small car, yellow!!! I'd stick with a Fiesta ST. But this is Audi attempting to secure all areas of the car market and failing. Have you seen the Audi SQ3, it has the title of the most ugly new motor on the road!! However I was behind an Audi RS6 with 21 inch rims, very nice

I think the S1 is in a bit of a different league to a fiesta ST.

Much better interior, 4wd, considerably quicker in all conditions and obviously more expensive.

Bit too early to say Audi have failed!!

Better interior, debatable, personal taste and the Fiesta's quality is great, I bet that transmission tunnel kills the rear leg room in the S1. And not 'considerably' quicker. Quicker yes, but we would need a side by side. I bet round the bends their isn't much in it.
Meh I bet they sell these in small numbers and I never see one, then again I've yet to really see another Fezza ST.

Have you started to enquire about one yet Arcam_boy?

A good friend of mine has a 63 plate ST2, it is very nice but not a patch on even a normal A1's interior let alone the 'souped up' s1's, please don't get me wrong it's a nice cabin but not up to Audi standards by a long way. I did like the light up door sills though haha!!

Same with speed there's quite a difference between the ST and S1 in all respects. The audi will have better grip in all conditions, it's got a fair bit more power over a second quicker to 60 which will make quite a difference and tops out at 155mph. Again don't get me wrong the ST's a great little car and is nippy but it really won't trouble the S1.

Not enquired about one yet I'll have a little play with the online builder first and see what it costs with a few options ticked.

Well I would have to sit in an A1's interior to judge, but the Fezza ST can hit 150 plus, Ford rather underestimated it's speed officially. You Tube videos show it hitting over 150, not sure I would want to though!

Even if it can hit 150 the S1 is quite a bit quicker off the mark and would hit 150/155mph quite a bit quicker.

    231bhp vs 179bhp
    272 lb torque vs 214lb

Official 0-60's showing as 5.8 and 6.9 respectively which on the road would be a massive difference. Even cars that are less than half a second apart on a drag race normally pull a big lead. Ford say the st will do 137mph so I'd be very very surprised a standard ST would do 150mph as that'd be some feat for a car of that power unless it's very slippery!

I'd also imagine the 4wd would allow you to use the power a lot more often than the fwd especially in this weather. I've only been in my friends fiesta a few times and it is very grippy but will still break traction if given the beans!!

I'm guessing the ST maybe a few kg lighter though!

S1's now showing on the Audi website although no builder option yet!

Have seen them already. Was looking for some proper, autobahn style high speed runs and not dyno tests :smashin:

edit: What Ron said above. Dyno 150 maybe. 140 in the real world....maybe?

@Arcam boy. I was only referencing the ST and the 150 claim. I guess the Audi could get close but the ST, no way.

Would expect the A1 to be in a slightly different league (in more ways than one) to the ST but i'd be surprised if the performance gap was that large given the Audi is probably going to weigh a good chunk more.
