I have been reading the posts on this web site for a while now, and also taking in the replys you all have generously provided me when I have posted questions. After much consideration and deliberation between purchasing a Sherwood Newcastle R-965 and the Arcam AVR-300, I finally took the plunge and ordered the AVR-300.
My main goal in purchasing this new piece of equipment was better sonic performance in Home Theater and 2 Channel Stereo (I'll also admit that the dreaded upgrade bug bit me good). My current Harman Kardon AVR-65 has been a great mid-level piece over the past 6 years... it sounds great with movies, but when playing 2 channel music I felt it was missing something. Maybe part of it is due to using Atlantic Technology 350THX speakers - but I feel the speakers are more than capable of doing a great job in both arenas. I should receive my AVR-300 sometime late next week and I am positive I'll be hooking it up and playing with it all next weekend. I can't explain how excited I am to receive this unit and get it dialed in. For now the only other upgrade I'm interested in is locating two side AT 354's to go to a 7.1 system... but this all depends on how they sound with the Arcam unit (I've been biting at the chomps to switch to Monitor Audio Silvers).
