Looked at BROTHER MFCJ6510DW at currys for £149
    A3 multifuntion printer.

My HP 1280 dont work with mountain lion.
    Will the Brother be compatible?

Or any other suggestions or recomendations?

Almost certainly, I have an old Brother wireless MF and a neighbour has the next down model to the one you mention, she has no problems in ML.

If you feel adventurous you can try installing this. It lists the HP Deskjet 1280 as being supported.

Summoner I installed that printer software, the print options are good but when I click print it can't find the printer.
It shows up in the options though.
Might just buy the brother now as I've seen it at printerbase or printer land for £142 then when I get vat back only £119 so seems cheap then.
Will stick my HP1280 on eBay to see what I get
    Thanks for advice everyone

I use a Brother MFC-J6910DW and my Macbook Air picked it up and connected to it without any worries at all, along with our Samsung CLX-3170FN, being my first OSX experience I was pretty impressed at how quickly they setup and with an utter lack of hassle.

Just taken delivery of the Brother MFC-J6510DW and the dam thing does not have all functions with mountain lion.

Same old story brother blame apple and apple blame brother. Had the same problem with HP
Im not getting the option to change the print quality. So cant print in draft mode and cant change photo quality it always just prints in standard mode

Come on apple look after your customers.

Just canceled my order of a macbook pro retina because of this and now wont be updating to new iMac when that comes out.

I choose apple so I dont have hassle and Im getting more and more hassle with them.

So might try windows 8 see what hassle i get with them.
