    Hi people,

THinking if moving up from a 42" 1080p to a 50" in the living room.

Don't watch sport. Watch TV dramas and films. Tend to watch stuff from a media PC most of the time either from the hard disk or iplayer. Couple of hours a day tops.

Already have a Roberts sound bar so sound isn't an issue.

Viewing distance is around 3.3m but I don't want anything too big as I don't want the TV to dominate the room.

Read a fair bit on here and seems that Hisense 50U7A and A6200 are both well regarded but just wanted a few opinions before pulling the trigger.

With the U7A, is the 50" as good as the 55"? (which seems to be one people mention more)

Both are in Richer Sounds with 6 year warranty

Is the U7A worth the extra £100?

If so, what if I pitched the U7A 50" vs the A6200 55" - which would you go for? Both are same price at £450

Or... any other alternatives out there which beat them both. Ideally want something available online with warranty and quick delivery.

    Cheers!

50” U7A not as good as the 55”.

Given your viewing distance I’d go for the 55” A6200 or stretch to 55” U7A. U7A has a wide colour gamut for better colours with hdr and the 55” has a 120hz panel so can be better with films as it should remove judder - but you may not notice judder.

    What’s your current tv?

Thanks! The current one is an LG 42" 42LB580W - I put it in the bedroom for a few days while decorating the living room and decided I liked a TV in the bedroom. So it's either take that back down and get a small one in the bedroom or upgrade downstairs.

Before that, going back a 9-10 years, in a different house, I had a 50" LG plasma which was massive at the time but I appreciate that's small to medium now!

I’d probably go for the LG -
    LG 50UK6750PLD

It’ll have similar processing to your current tv and a great smart system, probably not dissimilar to current one. It’ll probably drop in price over next few weeks as new models are released.

Will you watch the TV only at front or with a wider viewing angle? All the best TVs for picture quality from the front are not recommended for off-axis viewing.

Your current LG will be using an IPS type panel which makes for wider viewing angles than the 50" models discussed here.

See: Which panel type should I choose for my TV?

Thanks for the link. The TV is angled towards the single (but long) couch so I think I'll be alright with VA.

    Think I've found the 55" u7a for around £450.

Guess that makes it a no brainer?

Where did you find that price?

It was £520 at John Lewis just recently.

Yeah but you can buy a 3rd party policy for about £50 if you want peace of mind but as people have said who keeps stuff for more than a few years nowadays? Teach moves so fast now.

We all know build quality is not what it used to be.

John Lewis and Richer Sounds offer 5-6 year warranties inclusive of the price quoted.

Cheers. Yeah I was hoping to buy from JL or richer sounds but JL wouldn't price match and by the time Richer Sounds replied (to say I'd need to check with the store), I'd already ordered it.
I can handle the standard warranty for £100 saving

Noticed that the listing went to zero stock after I'd ordered. At the time of ordering it said 7 in stock. Wondering if it was a price error. Or, worse, if I'm not going to get the right TV, half expecting a 50" to turn up. Seems a bit too good to be true in retrospect.

Anyway, it's with Yodel at the moment so should be with me tomorrow.
