No chance of a slim redesign this year then, which is a what I was really hoping for

I see they've redesigned the headset too.
I hated it when they did this to the Xbox360 headsets.
It's much more convenient to have the volume and mute controls at the pad rather than half way up the wire.
Looks like the current headsets will be no more very soon :(
    Better buy replacements in advance.

I'd like to know why they didn't have 1tb drives to start with to be honest. Also why didn't they take the opportunity to do a redesign and launch with a 1tb drive I would so upgrade

    I couldn't agree more.
Launching the Xbox One with a 500GB HDD would have been like launching the Xbox360 with a 120GB HDD and requiring all games to be installed.
The game size to HDD space ratio is about the same, as you can only get about 20 games on 500GB HDD when games average about 25GB.

It's crazy, I would of so taken the opportunity to redesign the box into a sleek slim version adding a removable and replaceable 1tb hard drive. What with the upgrade to windows 10 this year it would of been the time to do it.

Announce it at E3 next week

With this announcement there's no way a sleek slimmer version is coming this year I'm so gutted!

I love my xbox one but it's just so ugly compared to the sleek looking 360, and I'm loosing storage fast.

Yes I can buy an external drive but I'd rather have it sitting inside the console.

Why do people keep bangin on about replacing the internal drive and a slimmer version. It's not needed at all imo.
You can easily upgrade the HDD space quite cheaply and if it was to be slimmer then it would also be noisier and hotter.
The PS4 is nice and slim compared to the Xbox One but its noisy and hot.

The Xbox One is a mini PC and needs the large case for it to run cool and ventilate and not sound like a hairdryer when running hot.
People could of purchased a 1tb version last year if needed as the COD Console was 1tb.
You can easily upgrade the storage for about £30 or less if needed.

I understand that but my 360 slim wasn't noisy at all, as for adding storage the console is big enough as it is let alone having something else hanging out the back of it.

I am super jealous of the Matte finish on the console!

The best news here is with the Controller. Great to see that they have listen to fans and improved the bumpers! Major never said in the video but I am also hoping they have improved the quality of the Guide button. It fells pretty crappy imo as it stands, especially when double tapping.

The blasted bumper buttons. They are crap on this controller, much preferred them on the 360 pad so hopefully they are like those.

Yes but the slim came out 5 years after the original. Xbox One has been out 18 months....

Not exactly a space eater that 2TB external HDD.

Where are you getting that from?. Xbox One was measured at 49c case temperature directly above the GPU while the PS4 was measured at 44c neither of which is hot.

Xbox One is ridiculously over engineered, there's no reason at all it needs to be that big sitting in a case with a ton of empty space in it, a high end Alienware Alpha would give very similar performance levels to an Xbox One, runs at very comparable noise and heat levels and yet comes housed in a tiny little box that's a fraction of the size of the X1.

I can understand them being very cautious with how expensive the red ring was last gen but now they have the opportunity to show that they know how to design good looking and efficient hardware not just software.

I am getting it from owning both and the PS4 being noisier and noticeably hotter than the Xbox One.
I like the design, it's quite and cool compared to my PS4 so I don't think it needs a re-design at all.
Slimmer and smaller is not always better.
My PS4 after being on and playing a game for half an hour is hotter than my Xbox after 4 hours playing a game.

And they have designed a good looking and efficient piece of hardware that runs cool and silent.
I don't spend my time staring at it. I'm too busy playing it.

I would much prefer MS putting all their time and money into the Xbox Games, Software and Monthly updates than re-designing something that is not needed.

Your 360 slim aint quite as powerful as the xbox one thos is it.

And there isnt exactly a big defference in size between the 360 slim and the xbox one either. My external HDD is stuck to the back of the unit that holds all my devices and tv.

If your PS4 is a lot warmer than the Xbox after just a half hour of use it might be worth getting a replacement, it's certainly not the case with mine, your post made it sound like you were saying all PS4 ran inherently hotter than the Xbox when you were really talking about your own console.

I do like my equipment to look good and I don't like big ugly boxes under my tele, I even changed my Xbox One from a black model to a white one (regrettable decision) so it would better match the PS4 lol. I'm the same with my controllers, I love all the different colours available and I'd get one of every type if I had the funds. People love new console colours and designs, I'll be picking up the Metal Gear red & gold PS4 unless it's priced silly.

An Alienware alpha is not designed to act as an entertainment hub in a living room. The x1 needed to run as quietly as possible hence the extra space.

I actually like the X1 design and think it looks good, I'm not that bothered about the size but then I'm not short on space.

My X1 gets warm after hours of play. I've seen two PS4's running in the wild that after 15 minutes are very hot indeed. Hot to the touch. They might be faulty, but my general perception reading around is that X1s run quieter and cooler. Certainly my personal experience suggests that. I also think the X1 has a far higher build quality.

My point was that the Alpha is reported to have comparable sound levels to the consoles yet come in a tiny case, being a windows pc it would make a fantastic entertainment hub if you wanted it to.

Just saying that it's perfectly feasible for smaller machines to not sound like steam trains, I'm certain that Microsoft have the engineering skills to make the console far smaller without impacting the sound it outputs.

You guys must have really great hearing or I must be half deaf because I never notice any noise from PS4 or Xb1 and I'm one who gets madly irritated about all kinds of things in gaming lol.

Absolutely no need for a slim xbox one , completely pointless discussion , if you don't like it don't bloody buy it.

The space in the case is ace.. For cooling :)

Anyone know anywhere I can get my hands on the new controller? I can't find an online retailer listing it.

My friends PS4's are hot to the touch also and quite a few people on here that own both agree that the PS4 is noisier and hotter than the Xbox One.

That article you refer to, did they test all Xbox One's vs PS4's ?

I think it is the general consensus that PS4's are hotter and noisier as they are in a smaller case with a smaller fan and internal PSU.

I just don't see why MS need to make it smaller or slimmer, especially 18 months after launch.
They are focussing on more important things like Games, Windows 10, Software Upgrades and DX12.
Once they nail all that like they did with the 360 then yeah by all means revise the hardware and make a slimmer console. I for one am happy with my Oversized, Cool and Quiet Xbox One.

What a stupid comment! If it's a pointless discussion why are you here?

Also I love my Xbox one I just don't like the Aesthetics of the box.

You may not need nor want a slim version but there's plenty out there that do.
