Network security and xbox 360

Hi All

Someone has told me of a way to connect to xbox live without the need for the xbox adapter.

Part of the instruction is to set my network connection to:

Allow other network users to connect through this computer's internet connection

If i do this will this allow people on my street to connect to the internet and my files through my laptop or will they still be asked for my network password?

I tried the Xbox today and aat no point did it ask me for a password as i connected. Is this because it i sconnected to the laptop via ethernet and the laptop already holds the password?

Just a bit nervous that others close by to us may be able to access our internet?

Yes. Ethernet requires no passwords.
